was in the "I’m NEVER ever having kids" crew. My mother saved two notes from me as a teenager where I wrote a promise notes to my parents. I will pay you 100 dollars if I ever get married and I added EWWW to that note. The other note said: I will pay you 500 dollars if I ever have stinky kids! Eww was added at the end as well. (As you can see, I have two and that one was a SHOCKER when they said twins..#######?!? I thought one will kill me but two...God's little joke on me for saying never! :P) When we told my family everyone was in shock I was pregnant...I remember my father saying, "I never knew you wanted to have children? Don't you owe me money or something?" CUTE ONE DAD!

:D

your mom was smart to save those!

my sister & her husband didn't want kids. they always knew they didn't want kids. she is a real tough-as-nails broad, and when people used to ask her about children, she would just say real deadpan and unwavering: "No, we don't want children." and usually that shut folks up.

Yet, they probably think "awww poor thing - she probably can't have kids"

Perhaps...not always. If I meet someone who is married and does not have children...its not my first thought. I just don't ask. It's their personal business. Only when they are bitter angry people...then I admit, I do think that first but typically don't ask or care more than my first thoughts...."probably can't have kids and thank god her angry azz didn't have them." :P

I know! Scary though...I owed them 1,000 bucks right off the bat! But I swear, I'm writing another note: I'm not having ANYMORE! :P

It's a strange thing. I feel like something of a poseur in this thread because I haven't completely dismissed the possibility of having a kid.

Empress, you think you're a poseur? i'm preggo myself... (THERE I SAID IT! My name is Al Hayat & i'm PG)

i'm just in this thread cuz i feel like maternal instinct might have cut a corner when she came 'round my block...

And it seems that everyone knows someone whose situation seems similar to yours: "Well, my friend Nelly had her first at 41! And she couldn't be happier! And she used to say she never wanted kids and look at her now!" Well, that's great for Nelly. I ain't Nelly. #### Nelly.

We just think that having children has been great for us but that the same time, they do not define who we are completely. I'm not just a Mom...I'm a professional, I'm a wife, I'm a woman who wants and needs adult time too!

One of my biggest pet peeves....people who can't go anywhere without their kids!!! We have a few friends like this. :( I hate it. I WANT AND NEED adult time!

Right on, Sister.

I'm a great mom, but I am not defined by that any more than I am defined by my husband, or my career. I am Jen...first and foremost. I love my children, and yes, I actually *GASP* want more (so suck it, Mawilson  ) but one of the best things I've taught my kids is to be themselves first and to never give up their identities.

If people choose not to have children, then I agree they shouldn't. But why bag on people who do love kids?

ok I figured out how to describe it... remember that movie bubble boy? the image in my mind was a bunch of babies arriving at daycare in something like this

bubble_boy_2-754379.jpg

each child is holding a squeegee inside their bubble.

everything is covered in plastic to protect it. he watches them from under the plastic where it's clean. mark rolls them around from underneath.

Not all of us are here to "bag on" people who want to have children. The reason I have posted and am following this thread is because this is a big decision in my life that I have made, and I wanted to share and learn from others who have made the same decision. Their reasons, their experiences with other people who feel the need to butt into their life about it. I never even gave much thought to the baby thread until I had seen this one.

Nawal,

You can fly next to me with your kids any time. :) I don't even mind screaming babies on planes all that much (well, I do, but I tell myself not to), as I understand it, their ears can't pop and it's very painful for them! I agree, it's mostly the parents who won't control their rambunctious little ones that I mind the most. Kicking the back of my seat, playing with the recline function, etc. I went on several flights when I was young, and my mother was very strict about things like this, she didn't just ignore me while invaded the extremely limited personal space of the strangers around us.

However, I don't think that this feeling extends merely to people who don't want children. I am sure there are many parents who get fed up with uncontrolled kids as well.

I feel bad for my mom sometimes, she would love to be a Grandmother but she isn't getting any out of me and my sister.

I remember growing up some of my girlfriends talking about how they couldn't wait to have kids- sure enough they are all mothers now. I just never had that desire- then or now.

It's a strange thing. I feel like something of a poseur in this thread because I haven't completely dismissed the possibility of having a kid. The older I get (I'll be 36 in a week, yikes), the more people seem to feel free to ask me if I want kids and make references to ticking clocks. #### off! Like it's any of their goddamn bizness. I think a lot of people just get irrational on the subject and don't seem to think there's anything inappropriate in asking about and/or commenting on someone's very personal decision or situation. And it seems that everyone knows someone whose situation seems similar to yours: "Well, my friend Nelly had her first at 41! And she couldn't be happier! And she used to say she never wanted kids and look at her now!" Well, that's great for Nelly. I ain't Nelly. #### Nelly.

I luvz u

You know Sister Joyce, I'd like to also say one thing - Nelly is a fvcking idiot for having a kid at 41. Yeah, I said it. I went there. You know why??? Cuz pregnancy is a beyotch and it totally fvcks up your body. And I'm not talking about weight - sheesh weight is easy. Plus, if Nelly is 41 her age can totally ** up her kid. I was 34 when I got pregnant and you would have thought I committed a crime with the way the doctors were circling me about this pregnancy. But, all of a sudden I wised up real quick - pregnancy isn't just some easy peasy, every woman does it, it's the most natural thing in the world bullsh!t - it's a truly medical situation, and I don't think alot of people realize that. If your health isn't stellar, you could be utterly and completely farked and your kid too. Pregnancy can kill you and that is the truth. It is only because we have decent medical care that women and their babies might have a fighting chance at living. That is why I think if you're wanting a kid have one - but try to do it at a reasonable age (before 38/39), if you don't, well then do everything you can not to get knocked up.

Just my two cents, sorry if I offended anyone.

I think you're being over-dramatic - lots of women have children in their 40's these days. 40 is the new 20.

In fact, I think it's silly to have a kid in your 20's and 30's. If you're going to do it, wait till your life is over. :P
