I see it quite often with my cube mate here at work. He and his wife don't have children - I believe by choice, I've never asked, just seen people ask him if they had any. I really haven't seen it go much further than "Do you have kids?" 'No' "Oh". Maybe the experience is different for men than women though. Guess I'll find out when I get married!

I think the right answer to that question is "KIDS????!!!! EWWWWWW!"

They usually don't ask any more questions after that.

I have been accused of being ghey because I never had any nor wanted any.

Heh? What does not wanting kids have to do with your sexual orientation?

You got me.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I like kids. I like them for awhile and love to give them back to their parents when they start to drive me crazy. They're fun when they're well behaved and being cute but as soon as they start annoying me I am reminded why I don't want any.

Would you want to be the only child?

A friend of mine (who would enjoy this thread!) maintains this view: "I fvckin' hate kids" (emphasis on hate) People tend to avoid trying to talk her out of such a strongly stated position. It's when you're wishy-washy about the prospect of parenthood that the syrupy, "Oh, it's the best job you'll ever have....you never realize you can love something so much...I can't imagine life before the baby...blah blah" ####### starts flyin'. I have noticed that when it's the woman who says, "No fvckin' way!" people tend to back off. It seems that guys are expected to be ambivalent about it.

Compare these numbers to straight folks and you may get an answer.

"Data from the 1990 Census suggested that 27 percent of lesbians in same-sex couples had given birth to children; between 5 percent and 17 percent of gay male households included kids"

I just tell people there's no way in hell I'm having kids with Neil because he isn't smart enough. Every single time they're completely shocked. They don't even question me any further. I really do feel like people who breed should at least breed selectively.

That's pretty old. 2000 data has it 30% of same-sex couples have own children under 18 living with them.

http://www.gaydemographics.org/USA/PUMS/nationalintro.htm

That number is sure to climb with the Gayby Boom.

A 2006 OpusComm-Syracuse University S.I Newhouse School of Public Communications study found two thirds of lesbians and a third of gay men plan to add children to their families over the next three years. Striking in their annual study of gay and lesbian attitudes and lifestyles is the fact that just four years ago, the figure was 18 percent for lesbians and just 5 percent for gay men.
