Childless by choice, and proud of it! Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with reproducing and carrying on the family name but it's just not for me. My oldest sisters both have children and think I'm a freak for not wanting any of my own. The way I see it, after you have children your kids get prioritized over your spouse, and I just love my marriage too much the way it is to have it changed. Also, travelling definitely is much more difficult. You either have to find a family member to look after them while you're gone, or pay double to take em with you.

Last but not least, and this is probably going to hurt some feelings out there, but here it comes anyways: I don't see the point in reproducing more children of my own where there's millions of them out there in orphanages praying for a loving family to adopt them.

People think us anti-babyists are lacking that maternal instinct by not wanting to reproduce, by the way I see it, we're not lacking a single thing we just have a different set of priorities.

Agreed 100%.

Child birth is an extremely selfish act - it's a statement to the world that says two things:

1) My DNA is better than yours, so I will not adopt

2) I don't care about overpopulation or the world's problems - I want a baby and I'm going to have one and #### you all

You are insane. So how many kids are you adopting to help this problem of orphans?

Hey if someone doesn't want kids I don't tell them they have to or give them a hard time. Some people do, I know. But I don't. But some people like you seem to be so anti-baby they want to find a way to insult those who have them. It's just a way to make yourself feel better than me. Go ahead, live in your unrealistic world. Just wanting to point out I am replying to Mawilson here, no one else needs to think I am "attacking" them. If it seems I am attacking Mawilson, then good.

When my girlfriend was pregnant about 25 years ago, I asked her WHY would she want to have a baby.

Her answer was : Because I want one !

I thought that was rather selfish.

That's basically it.

I think this kind of attitude is well summarized in this post.

:lol::lol: The flight were rather uneventful. No screaming, no crying at least not my kids. Guess what..I'm gonna do it AGAIN in a few months.

Actually, I tell people straight out that kids don't make a marriage better - they make it worse. You just have to hope and pray that your partner and you are strong enough to survive all the hard times, the games, the "go ask your mother/father", etc. If your marriage is weak, a baby will make it weaker. Having kids is rough and I sometimes don't know if I'm cut out to be a mom. But, I'm in it to win it so to speak.

I will say one thing...there should be a limit as to how many kids you have - 2 or 3 tops...still can claim them as a tax deduction, 4 or more you should be taxed on them.

Oh NOOOO! We had to take Kavi to India to meet the rest of the family there. Kavi was pretty good on the flights, extremely long flights like 14-15 hours at one shot. We did sit next to one grump on the way home who stated that young children should not be flying, to which Suj asked how then do you deal with the fact that your parents are in India and want to meet your child and maybe can't come to the US? By the end of the flight(15 hours later) the older man loved Kavi and was sorry for being mean. :D We were friends by the end.

ON the way back we had an older guy sitting in the baby row. Don't ask me how he got there. He sat in the very middle of the middle row, between 6!!! kids. Kudos to him. He slept most of the time or we talked a little bit.

Thanks!

There must be other reasons why people choose not to have babies - I'd love to hear them.

Great thread with LOTs of potential!!!! <HA!> I love it!

I definitely don't want babies because my current babies are 22 and 20 years old! 2 Decades is ENOUGH!

What really surprises me though is that...sometimes...people in their 40s with kids about my kid's age meet a new love...and then they get married to their new love and have a 'second round of babies' with their new love! What the sam heck...I guess love can be that strong but...my oh my!!!! I can't even imagine...!!!:wacko::wacko::wacko::wacko:

Sheesh! Once is enough!!!

My kids...I love them more than I can express...but I'm so glad that they are both almost full adults...and that they are both off at college!:thumbs::whistle:

Peace,

Babies do wreck a woman's body. Now that I'm in my early 50's, I pride myself with being as tight as I was as a teenager.

Dearest Nagi...Send foto...I'll be back in MI for the 4th

I had three, but that was 20 something years ago. I just found out that a friend of mine from highschool (we all will be 50 this year) is having another one! It's not her first either. I am a baby avoider right now. I don't hate em, I just choose to not hang around any. I'm flying to Denmark in a few weeks and it never fails.....always a mom with a sick baby on my flight, every time. 9+ hours of screaming and pacing....happy, happy, joy, joy...

We played around with one of these at Mardi Gras this year. Nothing draws a crowd like a new bathroom toy, port-a-potties and too much alcohol....my sister has pictures....I think

Wait. Do people stop traveling when they have babies?!

Dude, I just took my kids with me :P

No, but traveling with babies should be illegal.

Maybe sometimes. My kids have always traveled well. I did too as a child, actually. Flew to Spain at 9 months old and apparently slept the entire flight. Maybe it's genetic....

Unfortunately, the converse relationship between the educational attainment of the mother the number of offspring. Less educated women tend to have more kids in their lifetime compared to highly educated women. Then there's the obvious tie-in of higher incomes going to people with higher levels of education.

In short, the people who shouldn't have kids or so many kids are pumping out the babies while you see well-off people spending most of their time on their dogs or cats.

What about intelligent people who have children?

Yup --- not all women see their goal in life to reproduce. And that is perfectly fine. Being looked upon by breeders like some sort deficient being because I don't have children is plainly fvcked up and arrogant on their part. And it happens a lot.

I know what you're saying and I agree it's wrong, but ya know, I kind of find being called a "breeder" fvcked up and insulting. It's arrogant for those who don't have/want children to to use a derogatory term commonly saved for barn animals to refer to humans who have children. I don't find it amusing.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.
