Actually, I am not a troll. You can see MANY of my other posts in these forums as we go through this process. I knew this would be controversial, and the intent was for input. The attacks were a bit surprising, but it's ok too. Not everyone can participate in a controversial conversation without getting emotional I guess.

I am still interested in people's opinions on this subject as my opinions have changed while going through legal immigration. I just wanted to know if your's had as well, and what your opinions are. I really thought this would be an interesting conversation. If you don't, that's ok too.

I taught for 3 years under the curricular standards of the FL Department of Education in Miami. Can't say I used Spanish in the classroom unless I was crosslinking English to Latin to Spanish to help the new arrivals catch scientific terms of Latin origin.

See - http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...t&p=3078395

Sure does. And when it does... students learn by immersion. Specially when they're younger.

Immersion is the best way. people do not beleive me when I tell then there is no latin in my blood ( in my stomach yes :o ). I am grateful to know Spanish and now my Daughters is starting to pick it up from her friends and work. When mariel came in the 1980 some teachers had to speak in Spanish to the kids as they were not getting it. Then it would go right back to English. I grew up in little Havana Miami. About 10 blocks from calle ocho and 22nd ave sw :)

And the bell rings ding ding ding

Why is it that the only one who can stop the crying is the one who started it in the first place?

I learned french by going to France for 4 months and suffering,

PERIOD

if you think that by having a bi-weekly class where you learn you ABC and speaking other language outside the classroom and watching TV in your own language will get you to learn another language you are out of your mind.

I have heard that immersion is a great way to learn a new language. I think the problem I have with it is when it becomes mandatory. Actually, more so the school than the job. I can understand, for example, if you are talking to customers who only speak a different language, it becomes critical. However, in school, not given an option, an 8 yr old is thrust into a different language class that he doesn't understand, and starts to fail. Put into a different school, he excelled. Of course, it could have been any language, and he may have had other issues, although they started when he entered that class and ended when removed.

But the bigger issue isn't even about the language. It is, at least for me, about how people view illegal immigrants prior to going about it legally, and now in the midst of it, or after immigration is done.

don't get me wrong here,

If they are MAKING your kid to go to school and to be in a classroom where the teacher speaks another language than his/her mother tongue, I say it's not right.

Especailly if it is a public school, ####### get on the phone contact your representatives just like in immigration.

We are tax payers and support the public education system
