? Speaking Spanish is not a job requirement in SoCal. If it were, I would be unemployed and I had absolutely no difficulty finding a nice position :)

Not for all jobs...but just look in the want ads...a LOT of jobs state bilingual Spanish/English or must speak spanish. I don't speak spanish as well as I would like to, and would not be able to work there.

You should move to Idaho.

That's how it starts and why it's called an invasion - when natural born Americans are forced to move to other states.

Either learn another language, or move inland...

My sister and fiance and I are in an argument about this particular issue. Going through legal immigration ourselves, I understand why many people come here illegally. From the time away from loved ones, to the shear costs of some visas, I get why many people come here from poorer counties looking for better opportunities and to support their families back home. I get it.

I don't hate all the people coming here just based on that fact. I am more angry with our government for not coming up with better options. I don't like the fact that here in California, most job offers come with the caveat, "must speak spanish." I don't like that just about everywhere you look everything is in spanish and english. I don't like that my son was failing 3rd grade so many years ago, because they ONLY taught his class in spanish because HE, a BORN American was only one of three kids in his class that SPOKE english. There are MANY things wrong with the system of immigration here. However, to generalize millions of people as slackers, lazy or people who take advantage of all the freebies America hands out and none of them even appreciate it...well, lets just say it has lead to some very heated arguments between my sister and me...AND my fiancee who supports her prejudice.

What are your thoughts on this?

This is a legal immigration board so there shouldn't be much opposition to your view.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

There was a HUGE debate in Miami when they wanted to make the street signs Bilingual what a hoot. And how would you know if they are illegal or not? there are many people here in the US that have lived here a long time and do not speak English, the reason is they live in their little community where the need for English is not needed. See I was brought up one way but chose the other. My problem in Miami Public schools where we lived was there was no class for Spanish as a second Language, my Daughter missed out on this becasue all though school she did not have the option to take the calsses. The language at home has alwaysbeen English as my Mom ( her Grandmother ) does not speak a lick of Spanish.

My Gringa mom goes into say Kmart in Miami and needs to find something she wants. Well if Granny no speak Spanish then she better walk around the whole store. Most buisnesses look to bing the hispanics into their store as the number of hispanic in many cities is great.

I learned Spanish in 1980 when the Mariel boat lift came to the US, I am grateful I know a second language very fluently as far as speaking I can read it a bit but can not write if for sh!t.

Charles not in Miami that is for sure :)

This country is actually a bunch of different countries. Take justashooter, for example. He's no more than a few hours from me but his part and my part are two totally different worlds, never the twain shall meet (and if they try I'll ** it up).

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.
