Wedding Organisation Help!!

Hellooooooo!!

So here's the deal. Me and my boy have had our ups and downs over the past year and a half but now we're in a place where we think we'll be ready to file soon...probably beginning of December once we've saved up a bit :D

All very exciting and scary news!! The downside is that I am now itching to get started and get the whole thing over with ;)

Of course this also means I need to start thinking about weddings - although I am quite a girly girly and love pink things and sparkly things and high-heeled shoes, I actually know nothing about weddings and how they work. I know I want something casual, but with a white dress and a tiara and most importantly my friends and family there :)

I really should get to the point here, which is do any of you know a website out there that reviews wedding coordinators, vendors, etc? I've started looking around and found a couple I like in central Florida, but as I'm not gonna be there until maybe a month beforehand and I'd be entrusting my whole wedding to these people it'd be nice to find somewhere where I can get an unbiased account :)

Any tips or ideas gratefully received!!

Jess (the most ignorant bride-to-be in history :))

No worries. In this forum you'll get advice from people from everywhere, not just the UK. You can still access the thread from the UK forum too though. :)

Lot's of brides like TheKnot.com for wedding ideas, etc.

The problem you will find is the timeline for getting to the US is very unpredictable, especially since you won't even file until December. What's happening now timewise could change by then. It will be hard to set a date and book vendors, but achieveable. There are alot of fees and expenses besides getting enough money to send the initial petition. There's UK medical, immunizations, passport photos, police certificate, getting to London to interview, visa fee, courier fee, etc. Then once you arrive in the US, there is the $1010 fee to file for the green card. Be sure and budget for those things as well as a wedding.

LOL yes the whole timeline thing is something I've already encountered (read: am already slowly going insane...). I'm just one of those people who is excessively organised so I'm hoping that once visa time comes around and it's all approved we have several options of places/dates to book in case our first choices aren't available.

Re: visa fees, I know there's more coming up and I even have a spreadsheet with my budget for how much I can save from my salary every month - when did I become so grown up, and how do I make it stop?! It does all just come down to me being neurotic and having to be excessively organised. Plus I'm just excited :)

Ok so now that you know about timelines and fees and annoying issues - the most important thing to consider first the wedding stuff is fun!

theknot.com is awesome, it has lots of tips and ideas and even has lists of stuff bridesmaids should have in their purses! Very very helpful.

davidsbridal.com has many dresses of different price ranges you can look at to get an idea of what you want and the good thing is db's tend to be fast at getting an order in so you can order a dress from them in stores(which are all over the US i believe) once your over here or order another way too.

*breathe* ok so lots to look at and learn, I loved the wedding part! :D
