Hello Dear VJers,

I have seen a lot of pwning/bashing by elders against n00b. Can someone please tell what's so bad about n00b or new bies that elders or senior members love to

make fun of.

Please enlighten me. Everyone of us is n00b at point in life, at some place. so indeed of welcoming or guiding them why bash/hate them, why call name.

I am just curious. Please contribute and share the secret and your thought behind this act.

Thanks

Regards

Immigrant2009.

I dont think the "elders" of VJ hate N00Bs, as you say.

I think it more the fact the the newbies come straight in, asking questions, BEFORE doing any research of their own,..and then expect immediate answers. And when they don't get the answer they want to hear, they challenge it or argue the point, with nothing solid to back it up with.

You will find a lot of the "elders" here, had already done research, and were through a least parts of their journeys before becomng members of VJ.

It is frustrating when people ask for info, the elders provide answers, then the people that ask questions dont listen anyways, and go ahead and ask it again.

Yes, this site is here for advise, and help,....but the best help you can get is to try and help yourself before seeking answers.

Anyone?

There are many others besides you wondering the same thing on this site...but I figure that the answer is simple: It's just like in real life you know...when the new kid from some foreign country with a weird sounding name enters a class full of "typical" non-foreigner children...the looks, scorns, scoffs, bullying, etc. that the new kid has to deal with, its the same here as anywhere else...

Just ignore it like I do, it will not affect your experience here on VJ as long as you stay away from the Off-topic discussions where such "n00b" bashing takes place, you will be fine.

Most of the "n00b" bashing takes place in the Off-topic section of this website, nothing to do with asking questions before doing research of their own, as you say...and if that is the case, simple, don't post answers if you don't think the person asking deserves one.

MARM, you are right that most of this bashing occurs in OT, however, it arose in exactly the way Jodee described. It is very frustrating that recently there's been a rash of people, who have done absolutely no reading or research on their own, coming in and asking questions which could easily be answered were one to read the guides first. Or the FAQs. Most people will kindly answer a question and then link the guide/faq that corresponds. Often this is met with derisiveness and that is frustrating.

Being 'new' is great. But being new and refusing advise or arguing because you don't like an answer...that is being 'n00b.'

Thanks a lot to the folks who answered. I just felt that may be it was trend here on off tropic which MARAM confirmed. I do agree with what' jodee' said. One should infact do research on their own before asking questions. The whole point was the feeling i got seeing the posts by elders, so just wanted to get other member's thoughts.

why do you hate n00bs?

I don't :). Good pun.

If you took the time to read the threads that were linked and posted on you can see the fact that what was stated to the original OP's was the facts. There were some who kept asking the same questions over and over again in new threads when their intital questions were answered correctly the first 2 times around by more thn one person. Reading the guides is great as we all know and if you look at the posts of the supposed bashers in general you will see many times the help provided as was provided to them. As stated below when one did not get the answser they were seeking ( be it the correct answer ) they would ask and ask over and over again.

There is a case in point now that there is a member who has asked at least 12 times about and RFE at the consulate level. As links are no longer posted I will not place it here in case there are ramifications from this. However the question has been answered by many members many times and yet the person still posts and asks the same thing just in a little different words.

The thread in OT is just that a thread in OT. Off Topic is not for the faint of heart and I personally do not feel anyone was bashed.

And this is the second thread basically asking the same thing there is also another one in the russian forum :)

Why is it that the only one who can stop the crying is the one who started it in the first place?

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

What Jodee said.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.
