Straight people neighborhood

I don't like the way alot of companies do business, I don't share their philosophies. I do not see myself as a prejudiced person at all with regards to anything, really. It's a house at a bargain price nothing more to me...If I liked the house, the street and it was a smart financial move-then yes, I would buy it. It's not that I share his opinion, or don't care--but that other people's opinions and prejudices ( the builder) or the way they choose to live their lives ( the homosexuals) is not up to me to change nor will I try to..... They can all do their thing, I'll do mine....And if I get a great deal on some real estate-great!

But that's power of consumer choice. What if the builder wanted a 'Whites Only' neighborhood, are you going to not be influenced by that?

The builder can sell to white people exclusively, resales (I assume) can be to anyone. So what's the big deal? I can't buy from the builder but I can buy from you.

Because that kind of discrimination is an infringement on our constitutional rights.

So I can assume you have Boycotted the BET channel

But that's power of consumer choice. ........

You said 'supporting his business" the key word there for me is BUSINESS.

--I would hazard a guess that if I knew all the deep dark secrets/prejudices/scams or whatever for lots of business I wouldn't agree with them personally either-but-it is business. If that house that the builder has is one I want-I'm going to buy it and at a discount. That's BUSINESS, it's nothing personal ( thanks Donald Trump).

If the builder is predjudiced against homosexuals. That's HIS CHOICE...it's not my POV. My POV is a nice house at a good price that will do well on resale.

You said "choice".....People's POV is not up to me to change.... and it's unlikely it would change even if I tried. I'm not trying to change anyone's mind or POV here, either. ....Like you said it's a CHOICE...and MY PERSONAL choice I would still buy the house because it's a good deal..Maybe your CHOICE would be that you wouldn't buy it-and that's OK too. :) I'm not going to try and change your mind about that either.

CHOICE-what a wonderful thing!

{I don't have time to answer the questions at the end of your post}

tmma,

Maybe you and I interpreting the scenario differently. The way I understood AJ, the builder has openly advertised that he will not sell any homes to gay people. That's different from whether he has a personal prejudice against homosexuals, which would be more difficult as a consumer to know. My argument is that if he openly discriminating against a specific group of people, it is your business as a consumer to take that into consideration, knowing that your purchasing power (consumer choice) can in effect endorse his business practices.

I wouldn't buy.

But if we got a discount for being gay, I'd tell my best friend to pretend she's my wife.

We could be like Chuck & Larry. :hehe:

Luis probably wouldn't like that though... or would he?

Correct. If you buy from this builder, you do so knowing that no homosexual can.

As distastful as this may sound...If I don't take the deal-someone else will ( someone who IS truly discriminatory); and I am still stuck with no discounted house.

So-after thinking about it-YES-to be honest here, I would buy it....I know it's against the prevailing opinion here, but it's a good deal on the price and mortgage...Plus once the house is mine, I can sell it to whomever I want...Eventually the builder's predjudice will be illiminated by resale along the street.

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!
