Kezzie

I can think of some reasons, such as cases like yours where the green card gets lost in the mail...

10/01/2004 I-129F Approved

12/15/2004 K1 Issued

12/30/2004 Arrival in US

02/19/2005 Married

01/30/2006 Conditional Green Card Approved

01/15/2008 Conditions Removed and 10 Year Card Issued

03/28/2009 N-400 mailed to Lockbox

07/17/2009 Interview Denver USCIS office RECOMMENDED FOR APPROVAL

08/28/2009 Naturalization Ceremony - US District Court - Denver, Colorado[/b][/u]

09/04/2009 Applied for passport

09/22/2009 Passport approved and mailed

09/24/2009 Passport received

08/26/2009 Naturalization Certificate and Name Change Petition arrive back from State Department

Very true but you have to give it a chance to arrive.... if you have the greencard you dont need the stamp...

Kezzie

The Welcome to America letter is valid evidence of your Permanent Resident Status. You can use it to enter the US. In fact, in many ways it is preferred to the I-551 stamp in the passport as it is printed on paper that cannot be easily copied, unlike the I-551 stamp that has had trouble with forgeries.

The welcome to america leter can not be used to enter the country.... read it down at the bottom it says it cant be used as a visa.....

That is why when you go to infopass and tell them you have not got your card but you need to travel they will give you the I-551 stamp otherwise the would tell you to use your welcome letter.....

Once the I-551 stamp expires, can we get another one?

If you still dont have your Greencard when the I-551 expires I was told to go back to local office and I would get another stamp... but as my stamp is good for a year I am hoping my replacement greencard arrives long before I have to think about getting anothe one....

What if my wife has the Green Card but also wants another stamp in her passport after the existing stamp expires? Are there regulations against that?

I dont think they would give you the stamp if you have the greencard.. but maybe you should make an infopass appointment and check...

Kezzie

well the reason why I also want the stamp is cause I am going to Europe soon, and just in case If I lose it I will still have the stamp

I think that's a good enough reason, but then I am not USCIS. I don't get to make the rules :)

I'd make that Infopass appointment and find out first-hand. And if you're so inclined, maybe you could share your new-found knowledge with us when you do :)

The GC says it too... but it is still evidence of your status...

Just what Kezzie has said here is very important to remember. As to the time after approval at the AOS interview and the arrival time of the "green Card" in the mail, the USCIS states that if you have not recived your Card in the mail within 60 day's please inform them. What they do after you inform them Im have no idea.

But the PR would not be using it as a visa, they would be using it as evidence of their Permanent Resident status. Just like a Green Card is evidence of status, not a visa.
