During my appointment, USCIS told me that they had me in their system as a B2 visa holder. I told her I had never applied for a tourist visa in my life and she said "they must've got it from somewhere...".

They told me to go back to POE and notify them. Luckily, they changed my status to K1 without further troubles.

I wonder if people should start double-checking at the POE (if possible) to see what they've put into the system. This seems to be happening too often.

I believe that the part of the I-94 that they keep gets sent to a contractor in Kentucky and that's where it keyed in. They are probably doing so many and so fast that typos happen. The main thing is that the right info is on the I-94.

Just wanted to let everyone know that John's SSN arrived on Saturday, so that's less than two weeks from our application date. Looks like going to the CBP office straightened it all out. Thanks VJ! Once again you guys saved the day.

Could pose a problem if your POE is Dublin. As I am planning on flying via ireland to save any wait when I arrive on native USA soil. But after reading this thread.. maybe I should reconsider Chicago as my POE.

same thing happened to me. they have me in a system on a student visa. we have an appointment on 26th of this month...I hope USCIS people fix this mess...and i hope we dont have to go back to the airport (POE-MCO)

You don't have to go back to the place you entered, just to any POE or deferred inspection site. just google CBP and deferred inspection and search for one close to you.

The error wasn't made by USCIS and can't be fixed by USCIS. The error was made by Customs and Boarder Protection (Patrol?...some P-word). They are different departments, and you need to work with the one who screwed up, because any other one won't be able to help you.

im gonna go to the USCIS because I have some questions about AOS (medical) anyway, and while im there, im gonna mention this problem too and see what they tell me to do

The point in the verification process where the response SSA receives doesn't match the document determines what the SSA is supposed to do. If you provide lets say an I-94 with K-1 status and the initial verification response shows lets say F-1, the office is supposed to submit the secondary electronic verification request to try the resolve the matter. If the secondary electronic verification response still comes back showing F-1 status, the office is supposed to delete the application, issued a SSA-L676 notice and tell you to contact immigration to sort things out.
