mitch,

I just can't understand why you have not been able to get through to NVC. You seem to be calling the right number. You can check for yourself the number on NVC web site http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3177.html

It might have something to do with your phone provider. I suggest you try calling again from a friend's phone with a different phone service provider.

I live in California like you and I am able to call the number easily.

if you cant understand why i cant get through....... much more to myself.... i felt stupid.. and im pretty sure its not my provider coz i even tried dialing that number at and still i cant get thru. so!

Hi all

Anybody knw do we have to sent our original marriage certificate, birth certificate, police certificate(PCC)along with DS 230 or they need only attested copies(Certified copies)??

If any documents is missing means, they will notifies us by mail or email?

thank you!!

Pretty2009,

Each applicant and dependent must submit with the DS230 EITHER the originals OR certified copies of the documents you mentioned. If you are submitting certified copies, make sure they are certified by the Issuing Authority that issued the original document and not just notarized photocopies, otherwise NVC will send you an RFE.

Good luck!

Pretty2009,

I am in the same shoes with you. Getting certified copies or duplicates can be a hassle in some countries. I decided to take the chance and had my wife mail the originals to me, and then sent the originals to NVC, all by secure mail. I figured that if something happens in the mail, then I won't mind going through the trouble of getting replacements for the documents. After all, many people take the chance of mailing their Internatonal Passports to consulates to get them visa stamped.

It's all up to you. Do what you feel comfortable with. If you choose to send your originals, better to use the most secure mailing service you know of.

So far, at least I know that our documents are not missing yet since NVC has acknowledged receiving the documents.

Good luck!

mitch,

I agree with you that while waiting for your case to be current for processing with the NVC, it is a good idea to start gathering the certified copies of the required originals. Unfortunately, for people like me that failed to get themselves informed of the process in time, we have no choice but to do everything last minute. In my case, I wasn't ready to slow down the processing of our case by pursuing certified copies so I sent the originals. From what I know, NVC does a pretty good job taking care of the originals, even though mistakes happen, maybe in 2 out of 100 cases or even less.

Pretty2009,

In the I-864 part 1, your UNCLE should select "d" as the only JOINT SPONSOR (I assume he meets the financial requirements to sponsor your husband).

In the instructions for I-864, a Joint Sponsor is somebody "who can meet the requirements may submit a Form I-864 to sponsor all or some of the family members... A joint sponsor can be ANY U.S. citizen, U.S. national, or lawful permanent resident who is at least 18 years old, domiciled in the United States".

On the other hand, a Substitute Sponsor is "a sponsor who is completing a Form I-864 on behalf of an intending immigrant whose original I-130 petitioner HAS DIED after the Form I-130 was approved, but before the intending immigrant obtained permanent residence".

So since YOU the Petitioner are alive, your uncle must file the Affidavit of Support as a Joint Sponsor.

Good luck!
