Ive had them in the past, not quite the same taste as marmite but still good in a way, at least the first few were. dunno, I think walkers dropped the ball on those, I much prefer the lamb and mint ones they did.

My wife is from RURAL Virginia. I mean REALLY rural. Think 'The Waltons' and add a few trees and chipmunks.

We travel up there a couple of times a year and her Grandma (who is somewhere just south of 200 years old) makes the best chipped beef country gravy. I am sure lab tests on it would result in FDA intervention but it tastes SOOOO good. Last Thanksgiving I returned the favor when she came down to visit and I made a full roast (pork, crackling and apple sauce with roast potatoes and veggies) with Yorkshire puddings. The whole family (my wife's parents, sisters and Grandma) were a little dubious but cleared their plates and asked for more.

Apparently I am considered a near God in that her Grandma asked me for the recipe! She seemingly hasn't asked ANYONE for a recipe in 10 years as her cooking is so good. I took her to one side and told her how simple it was but not to breath a word of it to the others. Now if only they don't find out about Google I am fine.

Oh, and I love Marmite but that and Haggis are the two things I cant get the wife to try. She says the smell is enough!

Oh, the fun of telling American teenagers that Marmite is like raspberry jam, then videotaping their reaction to that first bite.

Priceless :innocent:

that is so cruel, and perfect! i must try this on josie. i just wonder what the reaction would be afterwards when she asks me why I am not trying it

"oh, you wouldn't catch me eating that, it's !"£$%^^ horrible!"

Hey all, another boring weekend without C passed by, almost glad it's Monday and back at work (almost!)

Question, does anyone regularly send anything over to your better half? Reason I ask, is that I sent a parcel over to C on Friday 3 July and it was meant to be 5 day delivery, but it still hasn't arrived. Sent it first class with the royal mail 5 day service so a bit disappointed. Wonder if any of you have found a better way to send stuff that is stil cost effective. Sadly, her crumpets will be out of date now.

Packages can take longer, and when Nik sent stuff with Royal Mail priority it didn't get translated into US mail priority somehow and took a couple days longer than advertised - that was for a large envelope. I assume it's even worse for packages. Sorry. :(

Just spotted the references to British Depot in prior pages. I was over the moon to find one 6 miles from the house in Jupiter.

I pop in there most weeks to grab pies (steak & kidney and chicken & peas) as they have someone local bake them. The scotch eggs are amazing too.

The wife (USC) discovered Dairy Milk Chocolate in there and is amazed it hasn't been launched over here. She says nothing tastes like it and considers it her special treat. Oh, Ambrosia Rice too!
