I may have to dig up that Yorkshire Pudding recipe -- it never fails! Not only is the trick in using full-fat milk, but it is a recipe that has been designed for US ingredients (believe it or not, there is a difference in things as basic as milk, eggs, flour... doesn't seem possible, but when I first moved to the UK, all my US recipes were horrible, and when we moved back to the US, all my British recipes sucked until I started doing some trial and error).

You angel :innocent:. I am actually going to be in Port St Lucie, which is about 40 mins away. I know its one huge thing I am going to miss :(

Hopefully there's enough brit expats up there to make a Publix Brit food selection viable.

Here's the site for the British Depot.

http://www.britishdepot.com/

You may be able to find something closer, though.

Fortunately I think Florida in general has such a large British expat community that there's always a little piece of home not too far away :)

OUCH! Some of the prices in BritishDepot are scary!!! $4.50 for Jacob's Club bikkies!!! I know there is NO comparison to US biscuits (I'm talking cookies here - not the breakfast doughball/scone thingies) - but at that price I think I'll adjust to Oreos!

On the same theme - does anyone know if similar expat places exist in Phoenix? I've searched hi and lo on web and asked my SO but no joy!

Also, interesting to read that US recipes for yorkies don't work in UK and vice versa. Flours are different I've been led to believe!

Marmite, no way! I wil never forget the horrible smell on my flatmates knife as it dried on the counter when we were at university!

I suspect my mum will end up sending me red cross parcels every month or so, as Tayto crisps are a bit rare over there. However, on the other direction, my wife C is begging me to send her some real bacon, her and her daughter cannot believe how good ours is. And as for the my step daugher J, she thought I was winding her up when I said we had a chocolate bar that said "not for girls" and damn it didn't I find Yorkie in the brit section in a Sweetbay! She was so stoke and ran about showing every one it :-D

Aren't Tesco making inroads into the States now as 'Fresh n' Easy' or something equally clichéd? I'm hoping they'll be true to their roots and sell some British stuff :) PS Sweetbay is awesome!!

...and here's a question, is it just me or does Cadbury chocolate taste different in the US?

I have picked up a love of Reeses peanut butter cups (and especially the eggs at Easter), I usually load up a few packs of them and a few packs of Funions to bring back with me.

Thanks - look forward to the update if you manage to get over to Scottsdale! I was in Scottsdale last year - stayed at the Days Inn on Scottsdale Road. Cheap and cheerful and served the purpose.

Where are you in Phoenix? My Bren is currently in Avondale (garden lakes) and we are looking at houses round there or perhaps Goodyear. Would be good to get a lowdown on the area if you are familiar with the west valley.

And NotworkSte - It's not just you about Cadbury choccie tasting different. Had some fruit & nut there and there was something different which I just can't put my finger on! Has US chocolate less sugar in it or something like that? I dunno? Next time I need to compare side by side - it bugs me!

Reeses peanut butter cups rock!!!! I can't get enough of them - but then, I am a bit of a peanut butter-a-holic!!! :help:

Unfortunately, Cadbury's chocolate IS different in the US. Some people don't like it, others (like my husband) aren't so picky and are happy to scoff US Dairy Milk bars.

The Cadbury's chocolate you usually see in the supermarkets here is repackaged Hersheys, and tastes just as carp. :dead:

You'll need to visit a British Goods store to find the real thing. Luckily, I have one 15 minutes away. Which is good, 'cos I'm a chocoholic. :P

Ah that will explain why I was disappointed with my dairy milk then.

Just sent C my first UK parcel, she is badly missing crumpets! wish I could send her decent bacon too, but she'll have to make do. mmm crumpets bacon and eggs. Is it cruel I took a photo of mine this morning and emailed it to her? :-D

...and horrified by the prices of kinder surprise eggs over in the US, I also stuck a 12 of them into the parcel too for Josie.
