I don't know if I should do this but I am basing my feelings about a no meds labor on my normal menstrual pain. I have had the most excruciating periods since 11. I'm talking back pain, cramps, leg pain, vomiting, and headache. I also found out that I have a cyst in my ovary that is the culprit for my severe cramps. Even though the doctor would prescribe Ibprofein and codeine, I got through it without meds because I wanted to train my body to endure pain. After a couple of hours I found that I could get through it by breathing and envisioning the pain. Either it subsided or I learned to get used to the pain. Hopefully this technique works during labor. Although I do think I am being slightly naive. I guess we'll see!

I had bad pains during my period too but not as bad as you did Nizzy. Also, I always popped pills as soon as the pain started but I guess not knowing what is going to happen is a good thing for us. Even all the reading and watching TV cannot - at least that's what I think - prepare you for the pain of labor.

Nizzy and Eveline....I hope you can go natural......just don't rule any help out completely, you don't want to get to the point where you really want something and can't have it.

For me, the pain was too much to handle, for others, it's bearable.....in the end result is worth it all!

Good luck either way :)

trust me girls, you will probably want meds  ....

it hurts way more then really really bad cramps.....

I had no energy to push...

Seriously, I wanna make the experience cause it just is a part of giving birth, right? I will post my birth story here and then you'll see if I got an epidural or not (I'll probably give up at 2 cm dialation).

Englishsammy: based on my own experience I can tell you it gets better. I broke out in the beginning too but I didn't notice greasy hair. My hair is normally wayyyyy dry and frizzy so it went unnoticed. But the acne went away and now my skin looks so smooth and feels so soft. I don't even remember it looking this good EVER. Unlike you, I'm not enjoying the big boobs. I liked my small boobies because they looked good in anything. Now I feel like all eyes are on them...but my big tummy throws off some of that attention lol...

I have heard mixed reactions from people I've known who were pregnant. Everyone has different tolerance levels or maybe some ppl have more painful/longer labor than others.

My cousin had her baby natural with no meds. And a good friend of mine has had 2 babies natural, and said it was just very bad cramps. They both said it hurt but they never asked for a epidural. My mother had natural birth with my sister and I, also. So it is possible to have natural childbirths.

But then I have another friend who had a baby last January, who was in labor for a very long time, and she did end up getting meds.

It's something that shouldn't be ruled out, but you may not need it. Do whatever you need when the time comes. :P

Stina&Suj: Thanks for the heads up. I am glad there is medication available just in case. Like I said...if I feel like I need it, I'm gonna ask for it.

Sam: Your skin will get better. I had terrible breakouts around my eyebrowes and I really had to work on it with the Clearasil Pads but it worked and everything went away after a week or so. I am still using Neutrogena once a day just to keep everything under control. As for my hair...Well, I had it cut short because I lost so much hair (it's now shoulder length) but it still is greasy. I wash it and as soon as I dry it I have about 6 hours until it goes up in a ponytail again cause it's greasy...I guess I have to wait for hair-down-days until after the pregnancy. My boobs didn't grow too much but I did go from a 36 to a 38 for some reason.

Hey Sam. I have heard of women finding out the Gender at 14 weeks but I think the later you do the US, the better the doctors can see. I found out (at genetic councelling due to Aspergers Authism in my husbands family) when I was 17 weeks and 5 days along. You can ask the person that does the US and if it's a boy it should be easier to see anyway (if the baby cooperates).

According to The Pregnancy Bible (it really is kind of a bible for me as it moves from the toilet to the bedroom to the shower to the living room to the car etc...I have it with me all the time) here is what it says about baby's development in week 16.

Your baby's arms and legs are complete, and his joints are working. Bones that have already formed are getting harder and retaining calicium-a process known as ossifying.

Your baby's nervous system is operating and his muscles are responding to stimulation from his brain, so he can coordinate his movements. He continues to be very active in his private space, rolling over, doing somersaults, and kicking. However, you won't feel more than a fluttering sensation, as amniotic fluid cushions your baby's more vigorous movements. If this is your first baby, you won't usually recognize these as your baby's movements for another few weeks. You can now tell your baby's sex on ultrasound scan.

I don't wanna scare anyone but all that talk about facial products I just want to add that you should make sure that whatever you use it is safe to put on your face due to the baby. There are a few ingredients you should steer clear from. I can't seem to remember their names but the stuff I use doesn't have it.

Also: Does anyone know if it safe to take Acidophilus while preggers? I am having constant yeast infections (sorry to be so blunt) that go away with meds and then return weeks later. The doctor says its normal but it's driving me nuts. I know that acidphilus is found in yogurt but I am sure it's a tiny percentage comapred to the pills.

AFAIK, there has never been any prohibition against yoghurt for pregnant women (indeed, in India pregnant women have consumed yoghurt and buttermilk for millennia "without problems").

So, concentrated version of the same bacteria (of buttermilk/yoghurt) should be ok.

I just had the best sandwich in my whole life. YES...I love Subway but since I found out i'm pregnanct I stayed away from deli meat and stuff (also, I'm too lazy to fry every single slice of deli meat before eating it.). Well, I just came back from the commisary and they had rolls there, just like in Germany (haven't had one in over six months so it was about time) and I couldn't help but eat one right away and on other one I put deli meat (fried), honey mustard dressing (fat free, no yolk), provolone cheese and - for the folic acid - some green leafy lettuce....OMG....that was sooo gooooood.

Sorry, I just had to let you know, I know it has nothing to do with pregnancy (or maybe it does)....I'm in heaven... :luv:
