The final stretch, folks. Three more weeks or thereabout until our little angel arrives. :D

It's the "any day now" period. And yes, we're ready.

If this is your wife's first baby, it would be later rather than sooner. For first babies it's very common to go past your due date. Don't let your relatives stress you out. Good luck!!

09-02-2005 Applications for AOS, EAD, and AP received by MSC

10-21-2005 AOS fingerprint notice for 12-08-2005

12-05-2005 Infopass appt at San Jose office for interim EAD -- Refused, because it is already approved by MSC on 11-07-2005

12-07-2005 Attempt at interim EAD at San Francisco office -- no go. Back to San Jose, where CSO (chief station officer) tells they will contact MSC via email to request permission to issue interim EAD

12-08-2005 Biometrics for AOS and EAD. Having no EAD appt letter was no problem (used EAD NOA)

12-15-2005 EAD arrived in the mail

12-24-2005 Received interview letter; interview scheduled 03-01-2006

That's what I hear. Her mom, however, seems to think that it'll be sooner rather than later. Those Africans see things that we don't see. I mean, there were scores of African women friends of Nani that knew that it was going to be a girl before we ever had the ultrasound done. They made that out from the shape of the growing belly. Beats me but they were right.

Besides, the baby is half German and the world knows that we Germans are always on time. ;)

Just wanted to post that my friend's baby Afton is doing very well after the c-section. :luv: She's such a cute!!! I went to the hospital last evening and got to see the baby even though she is in NICU. She is only 4lbs 5 oz, but has no major problems. The baby will have to stay in the hospital for around a month, more or less depending on how fast the baby gains weight and how long until her lungs mature further. My friend was around 33 weeks pregnant.

The reason her pregnancy had been so complicated is because the baby's umbilical cord didn't attach to the placenta directly but to a membrane(don't know what it means really), and so the baby was not getting enough blood and such through the cord. They didn't know this until the c-section when they took out the baby. They said if she would have gone full term and went into labor at home, the baby would have died because of this and she probably would have too. Something about bleeding to death. :o But they are all fine!

People may wonder why I am posting medical stuff about my friends lately, well my friend who have had the problems (like Dominique and Jenn) are some of my closest friends, the people I see and hang out with every weekend. We are all very tight.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)

Rhonda, glad to see ya here.

Pre-eclampsia is what my neice had when she lost her first baby at 22 weeks, and I blame the doctor. She had called him a week an half previously to say she sure had a lot of swelling she was worried about...(SHE didnt know what was normal and what was not as it was her first), instead of asking her WHERE she was swollen..(her face and hands badly), he told her..."Welcome to being pregnant". Then when she went into contractions, he argued AGAINST a c-section right away (with a specialist, mind you) and they tried to "deliver".

No wonder the poor babe had trauma on the brain. We think he might have lived had it not been for the "attempted delivery", as that lasted NINE hours before they did the c-section, and the boy lived for 4 days, til the discovered the brain trauma. So the doctor was really remiss in that case. That is an extreme case, as her doc should have had her on a high risk list anyhow, cuz she has had PCOS and had cancer laser surgery on her cervix when she was 17, so it makes it really hard to hold a child to term when you have had that surgery.

So its a miracle we have the lil grand niece we have now. She is a real sweetie. Let me see if I can post a pic.

Hugs to all

Jill

Well, I thought I downloaded a pic, but I guess I just dont know how. :crying: One of these days I will figure it out.

Oh and Kiki, thanks for the pregnant with diabetes site, I will check into it.

Hope all the lil ones are doing great!

im very sorry to hear of your niece's loss... it leaves a pain that never really completely goes away... and she (and possibly you) probably has some unresolved anger at the OB... i can not excuse not following through with her complaints of swelling... i cant offer any solace with that... i do hope that she and the family come to some peace with it all...

i work with premature and sick babies as a NICU nurse... and i just want to try to make sure that the moms-to-be are aware of some of the risks... a brain hemmorhage can certainly be caused during delivery... just also know that sometimes the care that is provided during a premature infant's stay in the ICU can also carry risks of causing a hemmorhage... sometimes we have to weigh the possible benefits with possible risks... a very large number of infants born before 34 weeks have a hemmorhage of some kind (graded 1 - 4)... but even without a hemmorhage, the chances of survival of an infant so incredibly premature are extremely low:

22 week babies

Nationwide, most 22 week babies are given hospice care. Very few 22 week babies have survived. Our estimate of the chance of a 22 week baby surviving with intensive care, 10%, really is just an estimate, because we have not yet succeeded in sending a 22 week baby home alive here despite several attempts. Most of those 22 week babies died after the brain was badly injured by severe bleeding into the brain and intensive care was withdrawn.

Before we begin the intensive care of a 22 week baby, we want to be as sure as possible that the baby's parents are fully aware of the high odds against the survival of such a baby. Also, little is known about the outcomes of such babies, except to guess that the risk of handicaps is higher than it is at 23 and 24 weeks.

http://hometown.aol.com/dderleth/extreme.html

Completed Weeks of Gestation at Birth

(Using last menstrual period) Survival Rates

21 weeks and less: 0%

22 weeks: 0-10%*

23 weeks: 10-40%

24 weeks: 40-70%

25 weeks: 50-80%

26 weeks: 80-90%

27 weeks: >90%

30 weeks: >95%

34 weeks: >98%

*Most babies at 22 weeks are not recuscitated because survival without major disability is so rare.

A baby's chances for survival increases 3-4% per day between 23 and 24 weeks of gestation and about 2-3% per day between 24 and 26 weeks of gestation. After 26 weeks the rate of survival increases at a much slower rate because survival is high already.

http://www.meriter.com/living/preemie/surv...ew/survival.htm

this information is based on data gathered during the 90's... the rate of survival is a little higher now, but not much...

there is so much information available now, in books and on the web, that you can probably find answers to almost any question... just pay attention to the source... but, if there is anything that you feel concerned about during your pregnancy, please contact your doctor about it... you may get an answer that its nothing to worry about without even being seen... if this doesnt satisfy you, call back and just ask to be seen... and always remember, if you are really uncomfortable with care during your pregnancy, there are other OB/GYNs out there... often times folks dont realize that they are the customer and dont owe an unconditional loyalty to their doctors

again, i know that your niece and the whole family has had to deal with a great amount of pain... and i hope she did change her OB/GYN... i am glad that she has had a healthy baby since... congratulations on your new grand-niece!

Keltic,

Thanks for all the info, and yes, we were all aware the survival rate was close to nil for the lil one. Thats why when he actually made it four days we were all rejoicing (since they said there was 95% chance he was going to survive at that point), then down again when the brain scan came in. We all feel that he MIGHT have had a chance if 1)the doctor had her on high risk to begin with and 2) had seen her right away when she first thot there were problems, i.e. bedrest, steroid shot, etc that she got with the second babe. Boy, giving that steroid shot REALLy makes a dif. That and the fact that, the doctor she actually CHANGED over to in her second pregnancy, who I have heard is one of the best in Nebraska, was the one that argued with HER doctor about the immediate c-section as opposed to the nine hours of attempted delivery (they had given her meds to prevent contractions first off) and then c-section anyhow. Her doctor won out, since she was HIS patient.

I dont know why the first dr. didnt classify her high risk, as he had been told her history, and from what I have read, anyone that has PCOS is usually put at high risk, and on top of that, to have had cervical laser surgery increaseses the chance of incompetent cervix. So he had no business not following up with her, except incompetence. Live and learn I guess, but what an expensive lesson.

I guess certain things are meant to be, but everyone in the family agrees that the doctor was incompetent in several areas regarding the whole thing. Not to mention, my niece really blames herself for choosing the guy, and then not following up when she felt a bit odd, etc, as any parent always always (wrongly most of the time) blames themselves for the death of their child.

Yes, we are all so glad she was able to have this one, as she was almost suicidal afterwards, not suicidal per se, but she just didnt care one way or the other, wasnt eating, etc. So this lil one is a double blessing.

And I think the only reason my grand niece is hereis becuz that wonderful doctor she had the second go round, who even called every nite he was on vacation to check individually on each patient. Now there is someone who cares! Go Dr. Kenny! Your the best!

the final stretch oh yeah--so are we--like 1 week or two behind you! But I dunno if we are ready--I mean I am still sanding the craddle--hope to have it with a new finish by Monday and installed in the Nursery by middle of next week. But I have court, doctor's appointments, job interviews, and I wholly luck! I was called for Jury Duty. But I called the court and asked could I serve some other time and they said that I could report for Duty in October. Thank God. I can't sit in a jury panel and not have access to cellular and pagers etc. waiting on my wife's water to break etc.

So, right now it looks as if it'll be a c-section delivery. Not the end of the world but not what Nani wanted. Seems that the baby is in what's called a breach position (butt down, head up) taking the option of a vaginal delivery off the table. There's still a chance that she'll turn into proper position but it's getting tight in there and she may not have enough room to do so. We'll find out. The good news, though, is that the baby looks good. For now, the c-section is being put on the hospital's calendar. We shall find out next week what the date is going to be. It may be as early as next Friday.

Wish us well.
