what are the rules about eating sushi? This is one of my cravings (there are MANY) I have seen cooked sushi...is that acceptable?

Hello everyone! I am new to this post. I was happy to see this thread was here!. My fiance and I had a baby girl last June. She is 14 months now and we are expecting our second child in the beginning of Jan'07. Real shocker to find out we were pregnant again so soon but happy as can be! Our daughter is so much fun that i'm excited to know I get to see everything all over again! Granted the labor isnt much fun but it passes and is worth it. Looking forward to talking to you all here.

Nizzy, the cooked sushi is okay...California roll, shrimp, etc...it's the raw you have to avoid.

I always thought it had something to do with avoiding the risk of it being contaminated...here I just found something on it online that better explains it then I can...

'Rare' is simply not an option while pregnant. Why? Rare meats may contain bacteria, toxoplasmosis and Salmonella, all of which are harmful to your unborn baby.

You are twice as likely to experience food poisoning while pregnant, so be sure to ask for your meat prepared well.

I was wondering if it is ok to take advil or tylenol while pregnant... I experience really bad headaches sometimes that last a few hours.... I haven't taken anything for it because I wasn't sure if that was allowed...

Sorry to hear about your headaches...I asked my doctor on my last visit and she said tylenol is okay but advil is a no no.

Did you get any updates about the placenta issue?

not yet.... my doctor is out of town for a few weeks but I have a check up beginning of September with a different doctor ....

Maternity leave is only 8 weeks in the US. That sucks

Not that I am having a baby. That just doesnt seem very long. They just passed a new law in Canada a few years ago. You get to take a year off when you have a baby now. Paid maternity for either the mother or father.

Hello - thought I'd pop in and check out this thread. No babies yet, but thinking about trying sometime soon.

Actually maternity leave at most companies in the U.S. is only 6 weeks!! It's only 8 weeks if you have a C-section. However, you can take up to 3 months off (un-paid) via the FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) and they have to hold your job for you.

I heard from somewhere that certain fish, raw or not should be avoided during pregnancy due to mercury levels....

WOW, Sadia, a girl!!!! Congrats, that's awesome. I have read mixed reviews on the baby aspirin thing, but will ask my DR. about it.

Hopefully the paternity thing is true.

My mom said we cant have the baby shower until after i have the baby! she thinks its bad luck to do it before the baby is born. poop....that means i have to buy stuff before hand, i was hoping i would get everything beforehand for free!

I've never heard of waiting until AFTER the baby is born to have the shower!! I wouldn't do it too soon into the pregnancy, but I would think once you're into your 3rd trimester it would be pretty safe.

Preeclampsia: A condition in pregnancy characterized by abrupt hypertension (a sharp rise in blood pressure), albuminuria (leakage of large amounts of the protein albumin into the urine) and edema (swelling) of the hands, feet, and face. Preeclampsia is the most common complication of pregnancy. It affects about 5% of pregnancies. It occurs in the third trimester (the last third) of pregnancy.

We had a 28 hour labour/delivery with some complications but what matters is that everything turned out just great. I am slowly recovering because of a 3rd degree tear, but things are really getting better.

Wow, I just read 29 pages of this thread It is quite interesting. It's like reading an on-going story and thank goodness I found it because I'm bored to death at work (they just put me on midnight shift )
