I thought this test might be appropriate for those of us expecting a child or planning to have one....

To determine whether you are truly prepared for the experience, we suggest you take this set of simple tests...

PART I

MESS TEST:

Smear peanut butter on the sofa and curtains. Now rub your hands in the wet flowerbed and rub on the walls. Cover the stains with crayons. Place a fish stick behind the couch and leave it there all summer.

TOY TEST:

Obtain a 55-gallon box of Legos. (If Legos are not available, you may substitute roofing tacks or broken bottles.) Have a friend spread them all over the house. Put on a blindfold. Try to walk to the bathroom or kitchen. Do not scream (this could wake a child at night).

GROCERY STORE TEST:

Borrow one or two small animals (goats are best) and take them with you as you shop at the grocery store. Always keep them in sight and pay for anything they eat or damage.

DRESSING TEST:

Obtain one large, unhappy, live octopus. Stuff into a small net bag making sure that all arms stay inside.

PART II

FEEDING TEST:

Obtain a large plastic milk jug. Fill halfway with water. Suspend from the ceiling with a stout cord. Start the jug swinging. Try to insert spoonfuls of soggy cereal (such as Fruit Loops or Cheerios) into the mouth of the jug while pretending to be an airplane. Now dump the contents of the jug on the floor.

NIGHT TEST:

Prepare by obtaining a small cloth bag and fill it with 8 to 12 pounds of sand. Soak it thoroughly in water. At 8:00 PM begin to waltz and hum with the bag until 9:00 PM. Lay down your bag and set your alarm for 10:00 PM. Get up, pick up your bag, and sing every song you have ever heard. Make up about a dozen more and sing these too until 4:00 AM. Set alarm for 5:00 AM. Get up and make breakfast. Keep this up for five years. Look cheerful.

PHYSICAL TEST (WOMEN):

Obtain a large beanbag chair and attach it to the front of your clothes. Leave it there for 9 months. Now remove 10% of the beans.

PHYSICAL TEST (MEN):

Go to the nearest drug store. Set your wallet on the counter. Ask the clerk to help himself. Now proceed to the nearest food store. Go to the head office and arrange for your paycheck to be directly deposited to the store. Purchase a newspaper. Go home and read it quietly for the last time.

FINAL ASSIGNMENT:

Find a couple who already have a small child. Lecture them on how they can improve their discipline, patience, tolerance, toilet training, and child's table manners. Suggest many ways they can improve. Emphasize to them that they should never allow their children to run riot. Enjoy this experience. It will be the last time you will have all the answers.

This made me laugh! they are all right on too. With a 2 year old we're wondering how we'll handle both of them together!

No news here - we had an ultrasound to determine the due date is January 6, 2007 so we might end up with a new year's baby ;) My first was a week early so we'll see. I'm excited and feeling good though!

May 11 '09 - Case Approved 10 yr card in the mail

June - 10 yr card recieved

Feb. 19, 2010 - N-400 Application sent to Phoenix Lockbox

I've been away for ages, but searched out this thread to find out how everyone is doing. Congrats to all who are now holding their bundles of joy in their arms, and good luck to all of us who have yet to go through it all...myself included!!

We had a scan yesterday and oh my God, how amazing. From our little bub's profile we can already see that "he" (not finding out the gender, but I have a feeling) is the image of Rob...same exact nose, lips and chin...truly remarkable! He yawned a few times and at one stage even turned his back on us and waved as if to say "Ok, show's over, Bye Bye" :D He also stuck his tongue out!! Cheeky divil  It was unbelievable how clear the whole scan was. We saw every little detail; fingers, toes, spine...just amazing!

What's also amazing is all the doctors in the US and the ultrasound I had there put our EDD at 13th Nov and all the Docs here in Ireland and the ultrasound have the very same date, so no mistaken the due date!

I know I sound very much like a 1st time pregnant woman, but the whole process is truly amazing (sorry I'm using that word a lot!).

Take care everyone and mind the hubbies, babies and bumps!!

Well when it rains it pours.

Was diagnosed with Gestational diabetes last Friday, and after doing a 24 hour urine test, I have now been diagnosed with Pre-eclampsia :(

I had it with my last pregnancy as well.......it's nasty stuff and I was hoping I wouldn't get it again, but knew my odds were much greater with my history.

The only bright side is my Dr has taken me out of work as of yesterday, so I can relax and collect disability .....

I am 33 weeks now, hoping to make it to ast least 35 weeks and then I'll relax a bit more.

Aaawww Kiki hugs for you (F) Hang in there, you are far along enough to be not too far from a "safe" stage for the baby to be born. I was developing pre-eclampsia as well, very very mild, but it started in my 41st week so they induced me right away since my baby was overdue already..what sucked was the damned magnesium that made me so sick during labour (you probably already know, but it just makes you feel like you got a bad flu) and because of that they would not let me get out of bed at all...on top of that, add 30(yes..T-H-I-R-T-Y :help: )nice hours before I delivered, but that had nothing to do with he pre-eclampsia it was more because my little one seemed to enjoy my belly too much and had no intention whatsoever to come out yet

I am sure you will be fine, there is plenty they can do to keep pre-eclampsia under control these days so that it doesn't get bad for you or your baby. It will be fine I promise (F) I have a friend in my homecountry who has been diagnosed with pre-eclampsia and she just merely entered her 22nd week...that is indeed scary considering how early her pregnancy is.

But don't you worry, some babies have good chances even if born at the stage you're at already, but let's keep our fingers crossed anyway that you'll carry the baby for a bit longer. Once again it will be fine! :star:

Also congrats to all the newly discovered pregnancies and the new mommys, the old ones too though...the pics of every baby in this thread are absolutely gorgeous...looks like different nationalities mixed together make really beautiful babies!! (L) Thanks for sharing! Here is one of my little angel(not so little..he is already 17 pounds and wears size 9 months already :P ) who turned 4 months on july 8th. Tomorrow he actually has his 4 month well baby appointment + second set of shots...and my heart is already breaking at the thought of how bad he is going to scream...I know it's silly, but I just wish I could get the shots instead of him... :( But it has to be done so...
