Hope all went well Marilyn?

I am worried about MarilynP...anyone heard from her??

Not yet. Hope everything's okay. Im excited to hear what she's having.

So who's fourth in line to deliver after stina? My due date will most likely change on the 20th when we have the next sono and schedule the c-section (probably get bumped up a week).

What is the reason for the c-section? Hope I am not being too nosy but I am curious.

I don't know a lot about c-sections and I totally didn't know that you can give birth naturally even though you have had a c-section in the past. I always thought once you have one then the rest are going to be the same.

Nah, not nosy at all :) Im a high-risk pregger, so we're having a pre-planned c-section. I have a birth defect of the spine (spondylolisthesis - vertebrae slip down over one another). Doc and I discussed it and I did some separate research on my own, and we both feel its not wise for me to try and deliver vaginally. Doc said he might consider it if the baby were very small, but given baby's growth rate (and the birth weight of his parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins) he's going to be a butterball. Im not really too scared about it, to be honest, since I know that's what we're going to do ahead of time. I feel badly for alot of women who have their hearts set on delivering vaginally and wind up having to get an emergency c-section. Im sure thats traumatic for some. I was with my sister-in-law for her c-section, so I feel comfortable with the procedure.

And yes, some women can have whats called a VBAC (vaginal birth after c-section). Im not terribly familiar with the guidelines for the procedure, but I have heard of it being done. I think Eveline is going for that, If Im not mistaken. I think alot of it is based on the strength of your body and the amount of time lapsed since the c-section, though.

There is a part of me that wants Mehdi to come into the world in the traditional manner. But the larger part of me wants it to be as smooth an experience as possible. I wont be able to care for him as well on my own if I do further damage to my spine during delivery. Besides, Im not a bikini kind of gal, so the scar isnt a big deal ;)

@maternity leave policies..

when i went back to germany last december the unemployment office wanted that i go back to work till i was about 36weeks but no one wanted to hire me cuz i was about 30weeks when i started to look for a job.. so they just said forget about it and i was allowed to stay at home.. (cuz noone wanted to hire me) but in the end i wasnt allowed anyways cuz i started to have problems and my doc gave me a note that i wasnt allowed to go back to work for the last couple weeks.. and then u are allowed to stay at home until ur baby is 3years old.. the unemplyment office supports u while u are home during that time or the last work place.. (if u worked long enough there..) my SIL gets her normal paycheck every month until my niece turnes 3.. plus they are expecting their 2nd child in july 2oo8 so she will get even more money.. :whistle:
