Wow, why America is so behind on maternity leave policies?

Not for the lack of money, I believe.

Lack of forward thinking, IMO. Its the same policy applied to group healthcare benefits and vacation/sick time. Most companies dont allow you to take more than 1 week off at a time in America. Before Ahmed got here, he just could not understand how any employer would limit their employees' vacation to anything less than a month. American companies seem to be more interested in short-term gain, rather than long-term goals. If they were more focused on the future, they'd put more effort into preventative measures. For example, my company pays for us to all have a free membership to Sam's Club, but hardly any of us use it. We've often suggested the same money could be used for a health club membership, which everyone would be much better off with.

Unfortunately, I dont think any of it will change. American companies are too deeply rooted in what they need/want right now, as opposed to how today's actions and plans will benefit the future.

I bet you'll start using that Sams Club membership when you have to buy diapers!

In a way, it is "lack" of money--meaning any less than the maximum they can squeeze out!

Congrats Artegal!

Nizzy, sorry about your little man, hope he gets all better!

I had an appt yesterday. Everything is fine. I go every 2 weeks now as I am sure some of you also do. I had to wait a while in the waiting room but it turned out my midwife had delivered a baby at the hospital at 9am adn 10am and my appt was 10:30am, didn't see her til 11:30 but that's not so bad since she actually delivered 2 babies and was back so soon! A bunch of people still had to be seen before me that's why it took so long. I really like my midwife. She has a nice personality. She is a certified nurse midwife sharing the OBGYN office with an OB Dr. I could see them both but I only wanted to see her.

I got a lot of cute baby stuff at IKEA on Tuesday. But I was really sore after walking around there. My due date is getting closer, eeks! :)

I agree, I think American companies are not really interested in loyal employees. If they did, they would try to retain them.

I think the government should control those things, because businesses just want to make money and the government should set some rules, like everybody gets a year of paid maternity leave or something.

MarilynP, I only have one but I have heard from others that each pregnancy is different. A family friend who was pregnant with her third told me that she felt different with all three. Let us know how the appointment goes on Friday!

We spent 4 hours in the ER last night. Eman had a temp of 104 and lost his appetite. Turns out he has an ear infection. We had to stay until his temp went down and he is feeling much better today after being put on antibiotics.

Oh no, poor little guy. Those infections are tricky. I didn't notice until Adam had a fever of 102. He was still all happy and playing but then something just didn't seem right. He was put on Antibiotics too and got a nice drug reaction after 7 days. They like to give kids Amoxicillin and I've heard so many moms saying that their babes are allergic to it. After that Adam's belly was all jacked up and he was constantly constipated. I'm trying to avoid antibiotics but with an ear infection I'd rather give it to him than be sorry in the end. Wishing you all the best and hopefully little Eman feels better soon.

Thanks Eveline. Yeah when they first told me that he should take antiobiotics, motrin and tylenol I thought, no way this is too much. I double checked with the doctor and the pharmacist because I couldn't believe it. I will do anything to make him feel better. The nurse told me that I have to stop bottle feeding him while he is laying down. The thing is that he only drinks his bottle at night and there is no way he will sit up to drink it. I don't know what to do!
