I love this thread ... I am learning so many new things about being pregnant (I can't believe I was that clueless about all the things that go along with pregnancy before now!!!)

I have my first ultrasound on Friday. I'm about 12 weeks along now. My local small town hospital does the blood tests for Down's, etc. at a much later date (18 weeks), but they offered the option of referring me to a university hospital an hour and a half away because they do the screening much earlier. I figured it would help my anxiety to get this done sooner rather than later (plus I wouldn't have got an ultrasound at my hospital until the end of December!).

Friday night the actual contractions started...they were very irregular but the pressure that I felt to push was insane. I called the nurse and she had me time them for an hour (I really need to get a clock with the seconds displayed too ). I guess it's really hitting us that our son will be here soon. My last day of work is next Wednesday :yes:

Hi mommies and mommies-to-be, I am jusst checking in. *Whew* I have so much catching up to do. I hope that everbody is doing well and enjoying motherhood and pregnancy for everything that it's worth :luv:

Heyyy (L) your son is adorable

I plan to breastfeed. I hope everything will go well. We registered for the most expensive pump out there to make it easier for me. Hopefully somebody in the family will get me one.

I plan to breastfeed too - my godmom got two pumps for me, a manual and an electric. Gonna pump and freeze also for him to help with the feedings. I want to provide as much milk to our son as possible.

What brand pump? I am having the hardest time deciding, good thing I have time left to decide. I don't want to buy the expensive yet nice medela pumps b/c I will be staying at home and will only pump maybe once a day or every other day(unless circumstances change). I am looking at some that are single electric pumps under $100, but I don't want to buy a piece of #######. But I also don't want to spend a lot! And I keep reading reviews and all of them are mixed on almost every product. This decision is driving me crazy. :P

Stina I'll check the brand names when I get home and reply

Just out of curiosity, has anyone had invasive pre-natal testing in this thread? Amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling? I'm just nosy cause that's what I used to do for a living.

Mags, I had an amnio (because of my age).....it wasn't bad at all...the waiting for the results was the WORST

I didn't do the amnio, extensive bloodwork or the more detailed ultrasound. Just the normal testings and 6 month ultrasound (when we found out we were having a boy).

does anyone else have a major problem with a lot of burping.?? it is driving me crazy....

and I keep forgetting to buy some Tums... I want the chew-able kind.. i hate the other ones, they taste like chalk :P

I have that problem, and what's worse, the burping triggers my gag reflex! It's VERY annoying.

And yes, we are very close in our pregnancy timelines :star: I know I'll be bringing tissue to my anatomy ultrasound...and most of it will be for my husband!!!

Is anyone else having alot of mid-back pain? I have really bad L-spine and nerves problems (prior to pregnancy), but my T-spine is killing me. Anybody got any good therapies, home remedies, amusing anecdotes?

Not sure how accurate this is but someone told us that eating a lot of sweet foods (sugar) will cause the birth weight of the baby to go up. Jinky is finally drinking water instead of soda - I've been worrying about the HFCS and its effect on the baby.

She's also taking an EFA (essential fatty acid) supplement in addition to her prenatal vitamins.

When I was preg. with my son, I ate alot of chocolate. He had problems with digestion and gas, he kept spitting up, ALOT. He was born 7lbs 2oz.

When I was preg. with my daughter, I ate alot of food rich with grains like wheat bread and black bread (pumpernickle). She was born 8lbs. 14oz. big umbilical cord and thick placenta. Dont know if that had to do with anything but it was different. She was a big baby. She had no problems like her brother.

Im glad Im not a soda person. Best wishes. ~Keri

my husband and i are divorcing and i am 4 mths pregrent

Oh, that's terrible. Im so sorry. :(

Due to my low iron and a surgery I had about 5 years ago, I was sent to a specialist in maternal fetal medicine. I had no idea what they were going to do. It turned out they gave me a full scan yesterday and did all the measurements. Said I was measuring a little behind my due date of March 28th at 19 weeks 5 days, but not enough for them to want to change the due date. They were also able to tell the sex, but I didn't want to know, though my hubby did so they sent an envelope home for him. I'm fairly certain it is another boy, because he looked a bit disappointed (he was sure it was a girl). I had hoped that'd be it they would say everything was fine and I wouldn't have to return to the specialist. Unfortunately they want me to come back every 4 weeks for a full scan to monitor the baby's development and if my iron continues to be low they are considering iron injections :(

I have a cold! :( Right now it's a burning throat and last night it moved into my chest too. I am not coughing much, everything just feels on fire. I called my OB office to tell them and make sure I am doing the right things if it gets worse. I haven't taken any meds yet, just hoping it goes away. Please God don't let it become strep throat or bronchitis!!

I just got home from getting my blood drawn at the lab, since last Fri was when it was supposed to be drawn but they couldn't get blood from me at the OB office. Thankfully it was a piece of cake today, the lady got it on the first try and used the smaller needle since she saw my massive bruise from Fri's blood draw attempt...she felt bad for me, hehe. Glad to have it done.

Married since 9-18-04(All K1 visa & GC details in timeline.)
