Has anyone tried using "FAM" (Fertility Awareness Method) to predict the best days to achieve pregnancy? Does it actually work?

Yes, and yes. What it does is help a woman figure out around when she ovulates, which can really help. I did the method for 4 months, and got tired of doing it so the 5th month I didn't do it, and that's the month I got pregnant. But using the method helped me learn a lot, which did help even when I didn't use it strictly anymore.

My wife and I use this, however, she wasn't "aware" and thus a baby's on the way. Here's a link for the info we used. They've done research and if you order the book explaining it, they'll give you a list of counselors that can help you look for what you're supposed to look for. My wife had a hard time knowing what were her on/off days. My wife says it's easier as a way to conceive than as a birth control, unless you use a thermometer b/c sometimes it can be hard to tell. Thermometer method alone isn't very accurate, but she says the two combined should be good.

Yeah we only used it(FAM) to conceive, not to avoid.

Isn't "FAM" basically the same as the rhythm method?

We've used CBE Fertility monitor, BBT Charting, OPK's and FAM. I think we're getting ready to break out voodoo to get and stay pregnant at this point!

It's similar, but not quite. There are days to count, but from what I understand, on fertile days, there's more fluid, or it's a different consistancy.

Ladies (and dads) WE"RE GROWING A TOOTH. I can't believe it. He's been having a hard time sleeping, kept pulling his ears and well...not to mention the drooling and on Sunday I saw a tiny little white spot which kept growing and today I can already feel the tip of the tooth. Adam is in a lot of pain. He hardly ever cries but now he is just so needy but he's got to get through that no matter what. In the evenings we put "night time orajel" on it and during the day he just chews on his little teething blanket.

My parents did the vodka method with me. I didn't even think about that. Well, as long as he's fine with orajel, he'll get that.

Ace-When is your next appt?

I had my 2nd appt today. Did the routine stuff, then tried to hear a heartbeat with the doppler and still was not able to. But my midwife says sometimes it's hard to hear it depending on where the baby is. So she took me right away to give me an ultrasound just for peace of mind.

So I got to have another ultrasound that wasn't planned! It was so cute. The baby is a lot bigger than the 1st ultrasound last month. The baby was bouncing around, we couldn't see the feet because they were facing my back, but I saw the face and hands! I got a shot of the baby's face facing outwards with it's hands next to it's face. It's starting to look more baby like now. So I was excited, too bad no one else was with me to see though. But I did get printouts. It just makes it all feel even more real! Even though the morning sickness feels very real, you get to see the person you are making.

I have a Madela Lactina Select, it is a rental my insurance covered it. Before I was discharged The hospital arranged for it as well as all of my other home care. Eventually I will have to return it. I hope that my insurance covers it when I have to buy one. I need something to increase my milk supply, I had heard about the Fenugreek being used. honestly I need to increase my pumping sessions....I don't pump every 3 hours as suggested. I only pump 3-4 times a day:blush: I will ask the lacation consultant about taking the hebs to help my supply.

a few tips for increasing milk supply:

`drink LOTS of water... 16 - 20 oz each time you pump

`pump every 2 - 3 hours (which is akin to how often a baby will want to nurse)

`have a picture of your baby where you can see it (maybe actually on your pump)

`when you shower, let the warm water run over your breasts to help stimulate the production

`your doctor can give you a prescription for reglan which is used to increase supply

milk supply is based on supply & demand... the more regularly you ask your body to make it (put the baby to breast or pump your breasts), the more your body will think it has to make... its why moms can completely supply triplets or quads

Christina--My next appointment is on Monday. It is my first official OB appointment where they take all the blood and urine samples. I have to get ultrasounds preregistered so I called my OB office and they said I don't get another ultrasound until 18-20 weeks...so end of September. They said they don't even look for a HB with a doppler until 12 weeks--( I will be only 10w6d so no doppler either It looks like the only reassurance I will get is from the pelvic exam that everything looks pregnant and ok. So here I wait

Regarding the tooth, i used to put a banana in the freezer and she would chew on that, also into the fridge the teething rings would go also! They love the cold on the gums:)
