Wasn't that redundant (considering it also says "avoid junk food", which last I checked hot dogs qualify as)?

yeah, i tried for that 30 day coverage too, but we made too much for it! :(

But the fingers are staying permanently crossed..!

My mom said we cant have the baby shower until after i have the baby! she thinks its bad luck to do it before the baby is born. poop....that means i have to buy stuff before hand, i was hoping i would get everything beforehand for free!

(barging in) Is that a Macedonian "thing"?

In the west (US, Canada), it's customary to have a gift "shower" BEFORE the event.

Apparently it's a Danish thing to as my mother in law wanted me to have it after the baby was born. J told her no way, it's done before here in the US.

Of course it's done before in the US. Money is spent before it is earned in the US as well...

With desis (in west), you basically have two camps:

  • those who do "western style" gift showers (including side-view photos of mother-to-be)
  • amongst Hindus, some do the traditional "seemanth" which involves mostly relatives

Both versions, gifts come before.

Hindus in India, "seemanth" only.

Maybe a bit redundant, but avoiding hotdogs is because of bacteria more so than because it is a junk food... avoiding junk food ie: chips, soda, candy, and such is more so because those things are empty claories..but have not been linked to any major complications in pregnancy.. as the bacteria in hotdogs and cold meats has...

Typically overseas they do the shower after, because to them its more of a celebration that the baby is born. My mom is just superstious about things like that and thinks its a bad omen to do it before, heaven forbid something should happen to the baby when its born and i would be stuck with all of the gifts as constant reminders....thats what shes getting at anyway....

and guess what......I GOT MEDICAID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i am soooooo happy, received the letter in the mail and there was a "yes" next to my name as eligible to receive benefits! I am so excited, not even that a$$hole of clients that i deal with at work can ruin my day! cant wait to tell the hubby when i get home. one less problem to worry about! Now i just have to find out if i can go to the doctor before i get my actual medical card... dont know how long thats going to take!

I aint cool enough for a signature.....

Thats the plan! I was going to call my doctor today and see if she can see me this week without the card, as it does have the case number on there. If not, i can always call the case worker they gave me and find out how long it'll take, but im sooooooo happy, i was really getting worried about having to deal with additional medical bills on top of everything else....... dancing for joy!

Quick question. Are any of you vegetarians?

Anyway, I was just wondering about this. Anyone have any specific tips on diet etc. if the mother is a vegetarian?

Oh and congratulations to everyone. The baby-talk is cute. :star:
