 Hoorray, I get to join the Baby Corner! I am about 11 weeks now, I have another doc appointment tomorrow. I am eating like a maniac, very emotional, nauseous but not vomiting and very tired. I think there is one baby, but i am not sure as I have not had an ultrasound yet, and with the way I am eating, I think I feeding a classroom. Discovery Health Channel is scaring the mess out of me with these live baby shows.

(F) Congrats to all the new mommies, and to all the expecting mommies. (F)

I'm just not willing to pay that much money for it, my doc has it at 400 $ or just under it....

if the price was under 100 I would probably consider it but the truth is I'm really not tempted to "see" what she looks like.....I'll have the real thing soon enough

I do relate to what you say about stuff for baby book though :luv:

I had a 'real time' scan which was burned into a cd. I wish I had asked how much cost. My doctor recommended a specialist for my first scan and that's what he does as standard service so we went... a month later we got the bill and yikes! I don't think it was worth it to be honest. even though my insurance covered a good chunk of it... I won't be doing that again.

Nothing I say is legal advice. I recommend you consult a qualified immigration attorney for any questions you may have.

if i were you, i would want a board certified physician...

http://www.abms.org/

"... Specialty certification in a subspecialty field is of significance for physicians preparing for careers in teaching, research, or practice restricted to that field. Such special certification is recognition of exceptional expertise and experience and has not been created to justify a differential fee schedule or to confer other professional advantages over other physicians not so certified... "

basically, they have to keep very current with all new studies, etc... they have to retest to keep certification... i guess the closest analogy i can think of is: you could take your car to any mechanic... your choices are a mechanic who finished an education in mechanics, or a mechanic who finished an education in mechanics AND took (and continues to take) extra classes and tests on your specific model of car... it means either of them could probably fix your car, but you might feel more comfortable with the one who has had a bit more education and has tested to prove it

ultimately it is who you are comfortable with... you could ask to set up an interview with the doctors you are considering to be able to ask questions that are important to you and see who you are most comfortable with... a good doctor would understand that and probably be glad to do so...

good luck!

Thanks to all for the congratulations. We saw Haneul today and her pediatrician in the NICU said she is doing very well and she is 'a very lucky girl!'. It was scary to hear that. She is off of oxygen now and totally breathing on her own. And she weighs 6 lbs 7 ounces which is 2 ounces above her birthweight. Iseul on the other hand is now 7 lbs. 3 ounces down from 7 lbs. 15 ounces at birth. I guess they are equalizing out!

:energetic:

Not only do you want to check for board certification but you also might want to check where they have admitting rights. Most ob/gyns have a hospital affiliation where they have 'rights' to admit patients etc. (ie the hospital lets them practice medicine there.) All the doctors I know with hospital affiliations are board certified.

So I guess the question is: If s/he isn't certified, where would s/he have you admitted when you go into labor? Or who would they 'hand you off to' at the hospital?

Nothing I say is legal advice. I recommend you consult a qualified immigration attorney for any questions you may have.
