Here is my story...

When I filed my first i-129f petition, I had a lawyer who persisted on getting an engagement certificate, supposedly it would make the case stronger. There are no engagement certificates at my fiance's country, so he got a marriage certificate at a stationery and crossed out all the marriage parts and input engagement. It was approved by USCIS but revoked by the consulate at Islamabad, stating that the beneficiary and the petitioner (which is I) are now married. However, we were not married and that certificate wasn't even registered. It got sent back to USCIS with the reason and is now at USCIS. Our relationship fell apart, so we didn't continue with that petition. This happened a year ago. The petition was revoked in May 2008

I filed a second i-129f petition for a different person (with a different laywer) and it is approved by the USCIS and is at NVC undergoing additional processing. My question here is, will the consulate in Islamabad revoke this petition because of the first petition? My new lawyer wrote that I stated under oath i was never married to my former fiance and do not wish to pursue that petion no more as our relationship fell apart. And my new lawyer says that the petition is now dismissed.

Would the consulate of Islamabad hold up the case as well? Please let me know for those of you who are familiar with the procedures of the consulate in Islamabad or how strict they are.

My fiance knows about my former fiance and why our relationship fell apart.

For those of you who are familiar with how the consulate at Islamabad is, please help me out in giving advice, thank you

use this principal - KISS = Keep It Simple and Stupid

You give them 'just enough' papers - you NEVER take a certificate, and cross anything out. Don't you think if such was allowed, they'd make a special certificate for engagement?

Since your from India, do you have engagement certificates?

My prior lawyer said that engagement certificates exist in India and other parts of Asia.

My theory is if it doesn't exist in the U.S., it doesn't exist ANYWHERE else, but no he persisted... you all are doing the right thing by not having a lawyer and going with the DIY route

I've never heard of an engagement-certificate (and I actually did a successful K-1 petition), closest is a picture of crowd-scene of engagement-ceremony with the word "betrothal" or "engagement" prominently displayed (oh, this would work better for "evidence of meeting").

if they have engagement certificate, it'll say engagement certificaite. and engagement doesnt hold any legal grounds unless u want to file for some papers. but, taking any certificate, and crossing out and writting over it disolves the purpose of that certificate. i mean, u might as well make a hand made certificate using a computer and write 'engaement certificate' or something. not trying to knock you down or anything but people never seem to stop amazing me.

none taken... I was just as amazed as you when a LAWYER told me an engagement certificate would make the case stronger!

However, that petition is over with... the best thing for me to do is wait it out and see what happens with this one.. I'll update you all on my unique situation

I have never heard of any engagement certificate in India. No offence, but which faith do you belong to, there might be something from the temple/church/mosque who issue some kind of certificate........but I highly doubt that.

Does the southern part of India issue engagement certificates?
 (I had my engagement in Chennai, which last-I-checked, is the South's chief city)

I still want to know if he was right or not

Thus far it is goin well, but I shall find out the ultimate answer in a few weeks .. I hope all goes well!
