Did anyone here own a car in HS?

I went to Christian Private school (college prep) and was chauffeured around by Mom. For Christmas the year I turned 16 my parents thought it would be funny to put a pair of Jeep keys in a little box as a present. I thought I got a cherry red Jeep Wrangler and was all excited running outside expecting it wrapped in a big red bow and discovered it was a mean prank.

I was allowed to use the family cars that we had during those years which were a Ford Taurus till it pooped out from the heat on a family road trip to the beach and they spontaneously bought a Ford Areostar for the crew while my Step-Dad had a silver sporty Acura with a moon roof which got washed away in a flood in South Austin so he replaced it for a white BMW with leather interior, power everything, and a sun roof. Mom was more family oriented and practical and he was more ... spendy. He is a day trader and I think still President of the Austin Day Trader Society and she was a jewelery designer and Artist so mostly a stay at home Mom. Actually now that I think about it he was a stay at home Step-Dad too with a home office.

 Oh man...what a terrible joke to play on a teenager.

I had the pleasure of driving my parents' station wagon. It was perfect for dates. :jest:

I was the first brother to drive the family wagon. By the time brother number 3 got a chance to drive it, the car had already spent many a night on the fire roads surrounding the San Fernando Valley. First time he drove it solo, he hit a speed bump, and according to mom, "The bottom fell out of the car."

I guess it sucks being number 3 in line.

1971 Nova. Blew the engine up at the drag strip (Still have the car, though). Bought a 1977 Vega which never really ran. Senior year I had a 1980 Honda Prelude.

Lady, people aren't chocolates. Do you know what they are mostly? Bastards. ####### coated bastards with ####### filling. But I don't find them half as annoying as I find naive bobble-headed optimists who walk around vomiting sunshine.

hmmm... i just remember bits and pieces of my high school years (in malaysia)... dad was in the airforce, and we moved around all over the country to follow him. :) so basically, i was always the "new girl". longest ive ever been in a school was my 4 years spent in uni, doing my degree in finance (that i dont really use, as i went to work with non-profits there after).. saying goodbye to friends and then having to reestablish myself in new state/school etc, was really challenging. but i think it also made me who i am today (same with everyone i guess, learning from our experiences). my mum is an elementary school teacher (my grandparents, aunts and uncles are all educators), so we got her to watch us then (age 7-12) ;) it was good, she's very strict on us (me and my younger bro) at school, so no calling her mummy then eventho everyone of course knew that she's our mum.. ;)

by the time i was done with elementary sch., i was in 3 different schools in 3 different states. and by the time i was 17 (13-17 is the typical age for HS) i went to 4 different HS - the last one was a boarding school (which for a lot of Malays a place that we want to be, after acing a national exam at 15. this exam also kind of a streaming exam, where we can see what kind of subjects we can take for our SPM, another major exam at 17, crazy asians with their examssssss). now, by then i was already adept at establishing myself in new environment; i got good grades, well liked i suppose, in the debating team, singing, dance, poetry and whatnots, but boarding school is a different ball game altogether! :D

luckily i have 50 other kids starting the school at the same time as i was (16) and 25+ of us were put in the same class (pure science), and we have to put up with the old kids (meaning, seniors and peers and some juniors who have been there since they were 13). some of the girls were vicious!!! the kind of girls who whimpers and giggles in front of boys and treat other girls like s#%t behind them boys ;) it was really interesting to see my classmates adjust. the first year was tough, but i got the whole class together with me, altho i guess im clueless when it comes to whats cool and whats not. the 2nd was our final year in HS.

the naughtiest thing we ever done in boarding school? well, fifth formers (senior) got our own study room at the dorms for us to put our books, and study, hang out when its not time for class, extracurricular activities etc. and of course we have to share the room with those mean girls. one time, we knew that they have been stealing our snacks, fruits etc and used our kettle without our permission at that. one day, we decided to put laxative in the kettle before we leave for the weekend. to be honest, im not sure if anybody got sick or what, but we felt like we got to avenge ourselves anyhow... hehe... those were the days... we (my classmates) used to meet up every couple of months for dinner, go to each others' weddings, chat every now and again. and those mean passive-aggressive girls? all grown up and became responsible members of society, lol, and we keep in touch on FB.

i dated the smartest and most popular/handsome jock in our boarding school  (but after HS, hehehe, i wasnt dating anyone in HS, too many things to do!) for 3 years. now that was a guy who has hangups re HS. he kept on reminiscing re HS all the time, that it gets old! he was studying in Australia at that time, and im sure that's the only reason why the rship didnt fizzle out sooner rather than later! now that 3 years i do mourn about. i could have been living large in uni with my friends, rather than being broke all the time coz of the long distance phone calls! not that i learn anything ;) LDRs all the way...
