:lol:Photoshop that there camel. I wish I could photoshop *so cool*

How prevelant are camels in your SO's country? At least in Cairo, they're primarily used for tourists, althugh apparently they're still a form of transportation in the Sinai and the Oaisees. I obligatorily rode one around the pyramids. Every time it got up or down, I felt like I was going to be flung off the front

I only saw camels in Giza. A few cops were using them to patrol, and of course those selling camel rides. Mohammed is terrified of camels so I didn't get the experience (no big deal for me). My understanding is Daraw in extreme upper egypt still has a camel market weekly where camels are brought in and sold for various purposes. I never got farther south then Cairo. Poo.

Funny pics

I wouldn't ride a camel at the pyramids... I saw some kids mounting one and when it stood up they started screaming :o I told Yousuf immediately that I would not be getting on one of those!!!

I want one though... just not to ride

That was the only time in Egypt I saw any camels I think. The tour guides and the police riding them at the pyramids. I saw a lot of donkeys/mules.

Yousuf sent me a pic once of someone in Libya that had two camels in the back of a small pick up truck... that was a hoot! :D but he says they are not common there anymore.

Saw Lots of camels in the Sahara and a few elsewhere in Morocco (like Jenn said promarily for tourists).

Our tour package provided a camel ride in the desert. Had ridden a camel years ago and had no desire to ride one again. Though the desire to ride like TE Lawrence was strong, the group of tourists I was with never shut up and I just knew their inane conversation would continue through the hour long desert ride.

So I bailed out of the camel ride and rode with the drivers int he 4WDs to a desert augerg where the group would finish up. Turned out to be the right choice. Not only did I get to have some real non tourist time with real Moroccans- tea, music etc...Waiting at the auberg was the first real conversation I had with my SO long before I knew he would become my SO. From that moment we had lots more conversations together and here we are..I'm flying out on Friday to see him after 6 months apart!

PS Someday I would like to take one of the 2-3 day camel rides into the desert without a group and camp. I'm just not sure if my romantic Lawrence of Arabic side will hold out against my modern "could't we just take car?" side>

I LOVE camels!!!! (L) I rode one around the pyramids at Giza, but I think my camel was possessed! It would dropped to it's knees and almost flung me up over it's neck! I would grab it's neck and it would turn around, look at me and grunt at me! And that little wooden thingy in the front to hang on to....well I had so many bruises on my belly from it that it looked like I got beat!

Mybackpages... what is that pic in your avatar? I have stared at it till my eyes are about to bleed and I just can't make it out  Is it just a man in the dessert?

I see a woman. I think it's her.

Your eyes must be better than mine... not saying much there... I can't make out anything more than a cloaked figure I just assumed was a man... my bad

I wasn't sure if it was like an actor or someone I should know :P

You may be a LITTLE blind and my choice for the avatar is a LITTLE small, but we are both fabulous. :D

I think camels get a bad rap for being ill tempered and spitting. They say camels are actually very intelligent and will remember people quite well- especially if the person caused some harm to the camel. And who knew they could be good swimmers too ?????
