So once I become a citizen I am going to file for my parents to come and live over here. I just want to clarify how exactly it works.

1.Once their application is approved and they have gone through the medical stuff and had their interview at the embassy do they get a visa or a green card?

2.If they only get a visa then do they have to do an AOS upon entering the US and if so by when do they have to do that?

3.If they do only get issued a visa then do they have to enter the US within a certain amount of time of it being issued?

Thanks, I appreciate your help

Clara

Oh how quickly some of you are to post the "please read the guides" icon.

Just once can you entertain the idea that maybe we have read the guides and need a little more clarification?? Please - if that is all you have to say don't bother to write anything. I would rather no one reply than see that as the reply.

Maybe I have accidentily overlooked the section where it answers my specific questions - but I did reseach it and I don't see it so if anyone out there is kind enough to know the answers and help me out I would appreciate it.

I am sorry that you got the "Please Read the Guides" remark. I will try and answer your questions.

Once thay have been approved at the interview in london they will get a IR-5 visa in their passports, this visa is valid for 6 months. So they would have to move to the USA within that six months.

Once they enter the USA on their IR-5 Visa it will be stamped by the immigration officer and it will then act as a Temp Greencard that is good for international travel and also employment within the US.

About 4 - 12 weeks after arrival in the US they will get their Plastic Greencard in the mail. They will also get their SSN sent to them in the mail if you checked the box asking for one on the DS-230 form.

I hope this helps, if you have other questions please just ask.
