Guys,

The NVC has input the DS-230 into the system and the CASE should be complete within the coming weeks. I'm headed to India next week to be with my wife. Is it possible to schedule the medical exam while I'm there, before the CASE is officially completed?

The medical exam has to be done only by an authorized doctor. Usually when you get package 4 they send you a list with the names of the specific doctors along with the papers that they need the doctor to fill out. You can schedule the appointment if you want, but I wouldn't do the medical exam now, not until you get the specific documents and instructions from the embassy.

I'm not sure how it works everywhere but in Canada we needed the interview letter at the medical.

Good luck.

Unless there is a country specific reason why you shouldn't, I think you'll be fine. We scheduled out medical at least 2 weeks before our case was complete. The doctor in London was fine with that- they only needed our case number. The results should be valid for one year so as long as you're expecting the interview within a year I think it's fine. Perhaps someone who has done it in India will know of a reason this won't work.

After your case is complete and the interview has been assigned, NVC will send you a link to this page: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/in...ng_for_med_exam

There you can find all the information you'll need about the medical exam, including the list of doctors you can see. For New Delhi at least it looks like they don't require the interview letter and you pick up the results and bring them to the interview with you. I'm not sure if that's the embassy you're dealing with but you can find everything you need on that website.

Hi... We waited to have the medical until after our case was complete, but we didn't receive a packet from the embassy for 2 weeks. However, our embassy has all of the letters and packet information on their website for download. We downloaded the medical information and scheduled the appointment with one of the clinics on the list. We completed the medical before we received anything from the embassy.

According to the medical information we downloaded from the embassy,

Maximum validity of medical examination results is one year (with at least 6 months’ validity required on the day of

visa issuance). If the exam has less than 6 months’ validity, the visa is limited to the life of the

exam. The vaccination report is not required for K – fiance(e)s and K3/K4 applicants. Immigrant visa

applicants, however, must submit this report as part of the examination process.

I didn't see anything that said you couldn't do it before, but if your case is delayed you would run the risk and expense of paying for the medical once again, if it expires.

We didn't need and invitation letter for the medical which was a good thing because the embassy didn't send it right away, but we did use the NVC interview letter when we applied for the Polish visa.

The best thing to do to make sure is to call or email your embassy and ask.

Good Luck!
