Police checks for UK armed forces

Good morning all.

I spent time overseas as part of HM Forces. I have spoken to the US Embassy in London (10 minutes - £12!) and they assure me that I do not have to provide Police Checks for my period overseas as this is covered by my military record sheet, which I have alread obtained.

My wife however has to provide Police checks for each country she resided in, albeit as a dependant, for over 12 months.

One period in Germany was over 12 months, the trip to Cyprus was 10 months.

Questions:

1. Were the US Embassy correct in saying I do not need Police Checks for myself?

2. Any advice on how to get Police Checks for my wife for Germany?

3. How long does it take to obtain a German Police Check?

4. Should we apply for a Cypriot Police check anyway, 'just in case'.

5. As such how would we obtain a Cypriot Police check and how long would it take?

Sorry for so many questions but I need to get this one 100% correct. :thumbs:

16-Apr-2009----Credit Card Charged

16-Apr-2009----Received NOA1 by email

11-May-2009----Embassy Website shows they are Processing Applications filed on 16 April 2009 Wahoo!!!

18-May-2009----Embassy Website shows they are Processing Applications filed on 16 April 2009, What did they all go on holiday???

28-May-2009----4 RFE's Lots of information required sending tomorrow.

The Military Record is available from each of the three services and just states who you are, when you served and if you were good or bad! Fortunately I kept a clean sheet for 12 years! :innocent:

Is your wife the USC? Confused as to why you both need police checks...what am i missing?

My military record was sufficient rather than having to get the police checks for every place i had served.

You wouldn't need to get a police check for your wife for Cyprus as it was under 12months.

The German police cert i understand can take upto 6weeks to come through, sorry i really don't know where you apply too to get it.

Hi again. Both need checks as I-130 applied for by our daughter who is the US Ctizen. We are both in UK.

Richard you need to contact the German Embassy in London to get the correct address for the area of Gremany that your wife was living in. My mother was in the same situation, My Dad was stationed in Dortmund and we lived there for 3 years. Dad was covered by his Red Book but Mum needed a police Certificate for those 3 years.

I have asked my mum how she got the certificate and she says all she did was called the Greman Embassy and they gave her the the address and contact details to get the certificate. It took about 6 weeks for it to come and then she had to get it translated into english and then she mailed the original and the translation to me to send with her DS-230.
