And Columbus did not discover America, it's not fair to have a holiday for someone who didn't discover America!, they should change it to Amerigo Vespucci, the right explorer who discovered America (not in an ethical way, but that's a completely different dimension) lol

Well guys, my parents are here, they got here friday night, and its been crazy exiting since then. They had no problem wats so ever in the immigration at port, so i guess they give all the hard time only wen you are in your country.

Kami: good to know u got yur passport, start looking for tickets now:)

Omar, even if it doenst say that you anything about yur emplyment on yur social security, you would still have to wait, i was also on a F 1 visa and went through the whole process. but i didnt leave the country though. if yu've already been here then you it wont be too hard for you to find yur way around, just find a cash job to kill time. it shouldnt take more 1-2 months for you to get yur ead any ways.

i am not sure, but i have seen a trend that AP for people with K1 visa's are taking a little longer than CR1. may be i am wrong. but just going through the time lines of different people i have been noticing this trend. Well, it will be over soon. InshaAllah, and belive me, one you get here, you wont even remeber it.

zee12... I made the same observation that AP for k-1 takes longer... my reason is that they want to check that it is not a fraud relationship and is committed to getting married. ... that's my presumption... why do you think so?

LMAO HAHAHA that was a good one... btw I'm taking conceptual physics and I learned the best thing ever that can calm us during the waiting process! MOMENTUM

Initial momentum of the immigration process= final momentum of the immigration process

Initial being that we sent out the petition and so excited and happy that our fiance/spouse will come and the final being that our fiance and spouse is here and the momentum is still conserved, the momentum of excitement and happiness! haha :)

Congrats to everyone who recently got their visas in hand!

Omark: I think that you should confirm with the SSN office once you get here whether there is any restriction for work on your SSN. The reason it is a DHS restriction is because any employment is banned by DHS on a non-immigrant visa unless you are given the necessary documents to authorize you to work (which is the EAD). The K-1 can be confusing sometimes because it is a non-immigrant visa with the purpose to immigrate, meaning it is non-immigrant in the sense that it is to marry your fiance but it is an immigrant visa because you intend to live permanently in the USA after marriage. For all intents and purposes, the K-1 is a DUAL INTENT visa, which is why you cannot work until you get your EAD. But since you were an F-1 student before in the USA, the best thing to do is confirm with the SSN office when you get here about whether you have a work restriction on your SSN or not.

zee12: So happy that you are enjoying your parents here!

Hopeful786: Yes, I do agree with you that K-1 AP takes longer usually as compared to CR-1/IR-1 AP. I am not sure whether checks are repeated in AP if one was put in AR, like in our case, my fiance was on AR for about 5 months and is now on AP, which is routine check by DOS/Washington. So I guess maybe it depends on the embassy which you went through. London differentiates clearly between AP and AR. AR is for investigating relationship, documents, etc by choice of the CO, and AP is the mandatory Washington DC/DOS checks. I think for Islamabad, AP and AR are combined in one because Islamabad investigates everything in any case, unlike London which usually gives visas very easily.

We hope and pray InshaAllah that everyone gets out of AP very soon and we get good news this week!

And speaking of professions...my fiance is an MBA-Finance as well as a DBA

I am a Non-Invasive Diagnostic Specialist (By profession, I am a psychologist, but have recently decided to change my profession this last year) :)

Thank you Marm for the information... I'm going to wait it out and see how long they are going to take for the documents to be reviewed. And I think you're right the AP/AR is combined, because my uncle's wife had to submit documents and she got the visa call after 3 months and a week and they gave back her passport 3 weeks later which marked the 4 month exactly.

You guys have no idea how happy I am to see people responding and posting :)... I'm glad this post is more active than before yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
