So... it looks like it's going to happen after all. Yay, America.

Do you think legal immigrants (K-visa holders adjusting status or green card holders) will be covered by the public plan?

What about illegal immigrants?

Thoughts?

IK HOU VAN JOU, MARK

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

If you have any sort of understanding of the discipline of public health, you know if you don't cover everyone living in our society, you're not doing it right.

As for illegal immigrants, taking care of that problem rests on the shoulders of ICE. Hospitals and doctors should be allowed to serve their roles.

I agree, after living in England for 3 years, the illegals will be covered too. And I'm okay with that :o

I think LPRs will be -- but possibly not the K folks.

Illegal immigrants I would expect not to be covered, #######.

now, I will grab my :pop: and see the ####### fly :)

I'm getting hungry here. Can I have some with Tajín please?

Looking for that 'cover everybody' news now...

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

I don't think illegals (or tourists) can get an NHS card in England. You have to be a legal resident to do that.

Well the NHS will cover you if something happens though.

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

I know lots of people who were illegal in London and they went to the doctor whenever they needed to and never had to pay anything. Once I went to the dentist with my friend who was illegal and we had to show bills to prove our address, but nothing more. We paid only the small fee you pay when you get stuff done (depending on what you got done!). I got an NHS card when I was there on one visa and that NHS card still works today (I used it lots of times after *that* visa was expired and I had other new visas) and it still works.

Maybe the system is only suppose to cover *legal* residents, but that's not how it works. None of the doctors I ever went to in London (and I went to a lot) ever asked to see my NHS card or my visa or anything. Only my proof of address.

That being said, I wasn't fvcking the system...I was working and paying NHS taxes like everyone else...and so were my illegal friends.
