first of all i want to say Hi to everyone here  its my first time in this forum... . ill be arriving in the u.s. nxt week. we will get married 2 days after my arrival. my fiancee will be deployed in august (so we r trying to learn the process now. so we can enjoy our 1 month togther  n get everything ok before he leaves.)

my questions:

1.when my husband gets deployed i will be leaving with my aunt's house and not on my soon-to-be husband's house (which is my mother-in-law's house)... WILL THIS BE A PROBLEM?

i read that COMMON RESIDENCE IS NEEDED for proof.. can i submit other proof? if yes.. what other proof do they accept?

2. can i just use my aunt's address in all the forms that i will fill up? since i will stay there for the entire deployment of my husband to be..

3. What forms do i need him to sign in advance?.. since he will be far from me... snail mails will take long long time

4. after being married how long does it take to get a SSN ? (i will be needing it for my california RN license..)

thank u for ur reply n God bless u now.. and i would really appreciate it if you give me some tips with aos n ead. :star:..

You don't have to be married to get a Social Security number. Get that in your maiden name about 10 days - 2 weeks after arriving. Change your name on it later after your green card or EAD card. It confuses the situation to try to use married name because SS people have to find your record of arrival at POE and that would be under your unmarried name.

Get a bank account together before he leaves as proof of joint things.

Put the aunt's address on you AOS things so you will easily get the mail from them. If he is deployed, then they will understand you can't be living together. He will need to fill out and sign the I-864 Affidavit of Support and provide evidence of his income. All the rest of the forms are yours to fill out and sign. If you get an interview, I don't know how he will attend, but I'm sure others will know and respond. Maybe you will be lucky and have your case transferred to California Service Center and won't have an interview.

Hi Nick-Nick,

Thanks for that info. I was about to ask almost the same kind of questions. Now I am preparing some documents that we need to my change of status here. I already got married and I am planning to get SSN soon, but it should be on my new surname right? coz I am already married.

Thanks

The name on the I-94 card you got on arrival is what Social Security wants to look at, besides your photo id (passport). Don't even bring up the married name if you want the card quickly. Later after EAD, you can go back and get the work restriction that will be on the card removed, and change the name by showing your marriage license. Get the card first. Worry about the name later.

They will not put your new surname unless you have a green card or a letter from Homeland security that u are doing AOS , even if you show them your marriage license. Thats what they do on mine. When i received my GC i went back to the SSN office to change my name with my hubby's last name.
