Apparently it is now Walmart's policy to card every member of a group when one person purchases tobacco products, not only that, but apparently my Permanent Resident Card is not a valid form of ID :wow: Now it has my birth date on it and isn't that all I need to prove? I was asked for a driver's license...good luck with that since I don't drive...my Military ID card was finally accepted...I wasn't even buying the bloody cigarettes! Apparently everyone in group must prove to be over the age of 21.

So I guess if a parent goes to buy tobacco or booze in Walmart with kids in tow....they are pretty much out of luck right there! or an immigrant with only a PR card of course :P

Anyone else experienced this?

They sell booze at Walmart ??????????

I get carded all the time for cigs...it still surprises me cos I'm like 'hello? I'm 36'

Apparently in FL, they card under 30...which is a compliment and all...but several times, the clerk is like 'wow you don't look your age' and I'm like 'what? am I officially old or something?'

defensive, party of one, lol....

Could it be that the Wal-Mart employee wouldn't accept the green card because he didn't have one of his own, and he was jealous?

I imposed my EAD on some poor unsuspecting Kroger cashier a few months ago (just before I got a learner's permit which always suffices). The poor guy had to sit there and examine it for ages because some bozo at DHS designed the card with black text and a dark blue DHS background. The DOB on mine is almost unreadable . He took it in the end though :)

Definitely get a state non-driver ID though, it just makes life so much easier. The amount of times I've been asked for a "driver's license" when what they really wanted was "ID" is unreal. I was never refused anything after showing my passport, EAD or GC but it did get some funny looks...

Glad to hear that Atlanta area Walmarts don't have the same policy :) the stepkids are almost always in tow when I buy tipple...

As a Brit (where the policy is broadly "if you appear to be under 21 you'll be asked to prove you're over 18") it still amuses me that my wife (who's definitely older than 21 ) is always asked for ID when it's totally obvious that she's over the required age . I was never ID'd back home but have to face that I probably will be for the next 20 years or so here :P. I saw a Walmart cashier card some poor guy who must've been at least 75 once... Just what is that supposed to achieve?

edit for typo...
