Apparently it is now Walmart's policy to card every member of a group when one person purchases tobacco products, not only that, but apparently my Permanent Resident Card is not a valid form of ID :wow: Now it has my birth date on it and isn't that all I need to prove? I was asked for a driver's license...good luck with that since I don't drive...my Military ID card was finally accepted...I wasn't even buying the bloody cigarettes! Apparently everyone in group must prove to be over the age of 21.

So I guess if a parent goes to buy tobacco or booze in Walmart with kids in tow....they are pretty much out of luck right there! or an immigrant with only a PR card of course :P

Anyone else experienced this?

Walmart....FTW!

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

Holy mackerel that's absurd! :o You may want to get a state issued ID which works just like a license only don't get behind the wheel.

Im a customer svc Mgr of 9yrs with Walmart here in Georgia. The last 5 yrs or so the policy states that if the "PERSON" purchasing alcohol or tobacco appears to be UNDER 40, they must provide a valid ID. A list of acceptible IDs are as follows. Valid : In state or out of State issued ID, Government ID, Military ID, Passport. Greencard holder is under Government ID.

also to add, here in Georgia (not sure about any other state law) there are NO 3rd party purchases. So if they are asking for EVERYONES ID, then that would be the same as 3rd party sales to Walmart which is a big No No. Only the person purchasing the product has to prove their Identity.

I remember years ago, while working at a convenient store. An older man came in with his son to buy some beer. Since his son carried the beer to the register, I had to ask for his ID. Boy, the father really gave me a hard time. I was just following the law. If we got busted for selling to minor, it was a substantial fine. Retail sucks. :(

I'd complain to the customer service department. And then I'd never go back there again.

lol thats what makes my job so fun... people that complain about EVERYTHING! however, it is important that Walmart associates know and follow the policies... saves me from apologizing 1000 times for someone elses mistakes or loosing customers.

last week Thursday, around 8pm a customer had a case of beer and was going towards the door and held up a receipt to the greeter but didnt stop and he was going pretty fast around the corner and the greeter said Excuse me Sir, I need to mark your receipt ... he nearly ran into the big cart pusher and he threw down the receipt in the cart and ran out the door. When I got to the door, the receipt was for groceries from 3pm that day and no beer on it (mind you its now 8PM) $30 case of beer that he tried to steal. No wonder inventories at Walmart shrink out over 1 million in a year! Greeters and cashiers that help catch theft get a free lunch on Walmart ( at our store )

example given: Above situation and Cashier on paystation had a customer that scanned a spoon label for $1.50 for a $8 collander and scanned a $3 book for a $35 board game. Cashier went to the customer and told her the items did not ring up according to what they were and they needed to be rescanned at her register ( customer then took off )
