What can I say? It really upsets me when JoeDoe gives himself permission to spout about academic life, tenure and promotion --- ** it, as if they had one iota of a clue of how freaking harsh and fair the process is. Blind peer review, anyone? Teaching philosophy and evidence of teaching improvement? Hulloooo??? Assssswipes. And being a "woman of color" in higher education I do not need to have chopfvcks thinking we all get our jobs because of our race, gender; etc. **off soapbox**

Apparently I missed something really good!

So, knowing nothing of the topic being discussed, but feeling the need to talk anyway, I just have this to say: I also hate it when people who don't know jack about the secondary education system in this country come on VJ and start talking BS about how teachers 'brainwash' kids with their own agendas, etc. I don't think people understand for one tiny moment how incredibly difficult teaching can be, or that there really are *gasp* teachers who care and who manage to do a good job without a) have sex with their students b ) beating their students, or c) bringing their political/religious/sexual views into the classroom. And I swear if I hear the phrase "you're ONLY a high school teacher" one more time...I may explode.

how much do you make per annum?

Far less than if I took my advanced degrees to a university I'm in a hs because I'm a silly idealist, I think. You know you're not in a lucrative profession when you foreign husband comes to the US and starts out making almost twice what you make .... with absolutely no practical experience.

And Len, yes, I do indoctrinate. I just try to keep it quiet.

Btw, did you know the International English Honor Society is Sigma Tau Delta? So, I am an STD as well, Hal.

That would take a long time I iz a little slow, I speak Spanish Very fluently and can read it pretty good, however I can not really write more than a few words

I tried teaching for a while. I taught primary grade level, and special education. I could only take so much of it though. I was a birght eyed idealist who was fed up with being an accountant. I found out real fast that the beaurocracy and politics with teaching are just as bad if not worse than they were working for a finance company :S

Teaching middle school gave me the itch to return to grad school. Enough said.

Nevertheless... an excellent experience I may repeat when I reach retirement age.
