Without reading any further than the first few pages, I have to leave this thread. So much negativity about the dead!

I agree. I will try to refrain from coming back in here. It's just so wrong to me, I'm sorry. A lot of you in here know I love ya.

I'm very saddened by this. :(

Me too, Lori. And I cried as well watching this:

RIP Michael. (F)

RIP (F) He had a hard life. And you should not speak bad of the dead - time to let go.

He must live so we're not bombarded with numerous songs of his released again as tributes

I like his older songs. :( I can't stand him anymore, but can't help but like the songs and the dancing up till "Bad".

Saludos,

Caro

I dunno--didn't at least some of the accusations related to molestation sound spurious? I could never figure it out. He was certainly a weirdo, but also an easy target in a lot of ways.

I also have a disconnect with Abraham Lincoln owning slaves and remain one of the most popular people in the US.

The disconnect lies in your knowledge of history. Lincoln owned no slaves.

That's weird. According to Ira Berlin, he owned slaves. Maybe I read it wrong.

Probably. Couldn't find anything on Lincoln owning slaves.

He sure screwed things up over the past years, but up to the 90's he was the best there was in entertainment, I grew up listening to him and watching his video clips, I remember it was mandatory to tune in for every new clip that came out, "first on tv release" sorta thing. I had all LPs up till "Bad" which is when he started getting extra weird and I didn't follow it anymore.

But child molestation aside, he was the king of pop, he changed the musical scene in his time, he was as big as Elvis or The Beatles in a way.

Heck, Thriller is the most sold ever disc of all time, nobody ever sold more than that album, and it was in '83, so it's something indeed.

That aside it's a shock and makes me remember all the super cool dance moves and songs but no, I wouldn't go as far as saying I'll miss him or anything, I mean, I do miss his old career, but for a long time now I knew it was over and all the scandal wouldn't let him ever come back to what he was, so he was "dead" already as far as singer I liked goes.

Oh well ... RIP

Regardless of what you have heard, there is no truth to this assertion. Lincoln is sometimes confused with other presidents who did own slaves, such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.

Nah, Lincoln never owned slaves. Thomas Jefferson and George Washngton did. Maybe you mean one of them.

Correct. He did not. But he also went on the record as saying that a black man could never be equal to a whilte man.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Nope. Lincoln did. His resident state did not allow slave ownership. But, when he arrived in Washington DC, he owned them. That is where I got it from. Ira Berlin noted that in his footnotes.
