I'm not sure what the guy's credentials are - but a google of his name turns up a bunch of science fiction related stuff, including this essay:

Science Fiction and Libertarianism

Ah... it *is* the same guy.

Oh boy, politicizing literature? Creating a literary 'elite' in the process? Seriously, that's f'cked up!

What he's talking about in SF are essentially cliches - anti-government types rebelling against various forms of totalitarian government. While that is sometimes a theme - the overarching idea of SF is to explore how technology shapes human experience.

Oddly enough its the total opposite in TV SF.

I did it once to a guy who ran a local newspaper, back when we were living in CA.

He'd written an editorial piece expressing sympathy for the immigration protests in LA - via the premise that he himself was actually an immigrant because he'd moved from New York to CA and could therefore, relate

Now, here's a real story about something that is wrong:

Still No Sign Of Winner In Minnesota Senate Race

Audio for this story will be available at approx. 7:00 p.m. ET

All Things Considered, June 25, 2009 · Seven months after Election Day, there is still no official winner in the Minnesota Senate race. Republican Norm Coleman was the incumbent; Democrat Al Franken the challenger. There have been vote recounts and re-re-counts and still the state has only one senator. Minnesota's highest court is hearing the case of Coleman v. Franken and has yet to render a decision. Mark Zdechlik of Minnesota Public Radio offers his insight.

Which reminds me, in AZ didn't they solve an electoral problem with a card draw?

If AZ I'm surprised it wasn't a six-gun draw.

Was just going to say that Coleman should challenge Franken to a duel.

I suppose that's one way to get rid of all the democrats. Most of them haven't even seen a gun, let alone fired one.

knowing the gun knowledge of most democrats, they'd probably shoot themselves.
