If you live in a city near the southern border, go into any Mexican or Central American restaurant, shout "Puercos de inmigracion!" ("Immigration authorities!"), and enjoy the ensuing chaos. Or, slowly drive by places where the illegal day-laborers hang out and pretend that you want to hire one, then drive off.

On second thought, either of the above (the first in particular) could earn you a "chicharron." The ideas presented earlier, conversely, are excellent.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Eveen if you get to drive or get to go to job you will be bored. I am bored, frustated and sad too. I am learning to drive but then every shop close so early and its so difficult to get to places and can`t move freely ....different kinds of fears and threats. I am working and people in work doesn`t talk to me unless they have to ............. as because I am the only different looking person in the organisation. Plus they also laughed and mocked about my name. So i dnt expect anything here !! My total idea of USa was different before i came here,. Every morning i hate to go to work but i have to ...... plus i have tried tried and tried to make friends all over. Here friends are for benefit, my neibors dnt even know me here. Rather in this way I am also get far away from my friends in India .............. they email me and try to call me every other week. My neibors in India write emails to me that they miss me.Social mannersim and scenario here is 1/10. So it does strikes me bad but then i keep my eyes and ear blocked. I am also member of library, gym, video library etc etc but then those does surplus these things. AFter i used to come back from work in India i used to chat with local friends everyday at least an hr before going back home. Plus i loved going to office , though myh job was hectic being a district manager.

I am sorry but i am telling the truth. I am sure many wd agree to me.

My husband had me get a gym membership - it does wonders to fight boredom. It's 34 usd a month, but the best investment so far. I drive there as I brought a car from Canada. My gym is called Lifestyle family fitness, it's casual, people like you and me. You work out, then you feel good and time goes by quickly, you get to lose weight and look better. We go with my husband in the evenings after work and then on his free days, it's like our date night.

The Lord is my strength and my shield,

My heart trusted in Him and I am helped,

therefore my heart greatly rejoices,

and with my song I will praise Him.

Psalm 28:7

They also have music CDs... :innocent:

I too am looking for work with no luck yet and "gah" I am with the boredom, there is only so much shopping, house/yard work that can be done. I volunteer at a therapeutic riding farm doing all sorts of things a couple days a week which is great. But other than that i kinda hide out on my own. People here are so loud and rude, ladies with big boofy hair, nasty nails, leathery skin, tank tops and shorts, bleh, thats why I avoid the malls and most places in general! I always seem to get in their way unintentionally and piss them off :(

A good website to check for volunteer work in your area is volunteermatch.com. I found a job on there that matches my interest and previous experience, so it's a good way to build US work experience for your resume, and in some cases it might even lead to a paid position.

Another thing I did to fight boredom is get a bike. It cost me only $79 at walmart, and it gives me a bit more freedom to explore the area since I am not able to drive yet. It helps a lot when you know you can leave the house and don't have to be stuck at home all day.
