If you post your question in the Latin American subforum here, you may receive more replies. A general problem is that tourist visas can be easily denied (I hope less in Peru than in Ecuador), so avoid getting your hopes up. Consult other Peruanos here for what happened to them.

I'm pretty sure that in general a tourist visa is for 3 months, but it all depends on what they give you at the interview your parents would have to go to in Peru at the American consulate and also the amount of time that is given to them at the POE (post of entry) in the United States. In general it is for 3 months, but it is never more than 6 months and is often shorter than 3.

Like the above person said, getting tourist visas to the US can be a bit difficult for countries in South America. I have no experience with Peru, but based on my experience in Brazil (and clearly the experience of the person above for Ecuador) it's not easy. Your parents will have to show sufficient ties to Peru (house, jobs that they will come back to, kids, grandkids that are staying in Peru and not also wanting to go to the wedding, other large personal possessions) and sufficient funds for them to pay for everything they will need while in the US. I've also heard that it helps to have a wedding invitation at the interview so that they can show the officer why they want to go the to US. But without ties to Peru or money, the wedding invitation won't help anything at all.

Depends how long they give her the visa for. But in any case, no longer than 6 months as a tourist.

A visa is usually issued for 3 months but can be extended to 6 months.

I heard recently that peru lightened up on the requierements for the tourist visa in Peru. You have to be able to prove that you have a reason to return. IE you own a house have kids there have a good job........ Last I heard also is that you have to have $5000 in the bank to show that you can support your self while in the USA. I guess they figure that is how much it takes to live for 3 months

Ecuador: My wife's parents and youngest sister traveled 14 hours by bus to Quito. The female CO asked them perhaps two general questions, refused to accept ANY evidence (shades of the Guayaquil consulate for family-based marital visas), and said, "Well, maybe next time." The entire experience lasted perhaps 3 minutes and cost them 3 visa fees. Dad-in-law was LIVID, and I was mortified once again at the behavior of my government.

Another USC's mother-in-law was denied similarly. He says (and I cannot confirm this, but would appreciate ANY valid insight into it) that a couple has to be married for a year within the U.S. before tourist visas for family members will be approved for a visit. I have never seen such a rule. If it is indeed true, FAR more transparency is necessary.

All my family has had tourist visas to the US like forever. They used to be lifetime visas when I was little; but now they have all changed to 10 year ones.

Yeah, Del and I are a bit concerned about his family getting visas to come and visit us once we move but I think they'd be okay.

His aunt is 60 years old, owns an apartment, has a job, and the rest of her family here. I think the fact that she has a job (and also gets retirement money from other jobs) and owns the apartment here would help her get the visa. Those are pretty good reasons to return. And we'd hopefully be able to up her bank account balance a couple months before she would apply for the visa (and she'd probably only want the visa for about a month or maximum two anyway. I hope she'd get it!)

His dad would definitely get the visa. He owns his house, and his own company which he is the president of, plus he has 3 other kids here, and a grandson that would not come. So I wouldn't even worry about him too much...but you never know. Because while he has all of that and sounds well-to-do on paper like this, the bank balance would be severely lacking!!
