The trouble with the global warming debate is that it has become a moral crusade when it's really an engineering problem

IMO the author is right in saying that the 'solution' to warming will not be political, it will be technical.

As long as our federal government heavily subsidizes the Fossil Fuel Industry, ignoring a need for policy change as part of the 'solution' would be disasterous.

It's all political... THE CLIMATE WON'T AND CAN'T STAY THE SAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1. We have been in a warming period for the past 10,000 to 12,000 years since the last ice age. How is that possible when the industrial age started 150 years ago?

2. We have had many ice ages and warming periods since the earth was formed. There will be more.

3. How arrogant are we to think the climate should stay the same? It will get warmer or cooler. I'd rather have higher seas than a glacier in Manhattan.

Bump.

I will give 10 bucks by mail to anybody who goes to see Al Gore's movie and can continue to defend the outlandishly ridiculous "viewpoint" expressed here.

We can reduce our reliance of some fossil fuels - oil and gas are not going anywhere in the short to medium term, but there's really no reason why we can't abolish coal (which is infinitely more environmentally damaging than oil).

Nuclear power is the only economically viable alternative energy there is at present.

I beg to differ. We have no comprehensive and viable strategy for handling nuclear waste. I believe Sweden is in the process of completely phasing out all of their nuclear power plants. Not only that - they pose a potential target for terrorists. Solar and wind power have shown promise and both are clean, renewable energy sources. While they may not fully supplement our energy needs, they can certainly reduce our dependancy on fossil fuels.

It is odd that people who call some conspiracy theorists for their views on 9/11 are actually conspiracy theorists themselves. It does make sense to me that the world goes through cycles. It also seems sensible to me that we should reduce our impact on the planet even if global warming is not real. It makes sense that our waste of various types do have an impact. I have heard conflicting views on global warming and on peak oil. It seems to me that if peak oil and global warmign were real problems then the world would have been making action long ago. When i say that i mean world leaders and business leaders.

Gas prices goes up whilst alternative fuels get crushed. Apparently we are not even using most of the oil stolen from Iraq. So the war for oil seems like no more than a war for gas prices to me. I don`t deny our impact on the planet and i would certainly be against the kind of pollution that nuclear power would bring(even without wormwood falling from the sky).

HAHAHAHA....yeah sure

PS yabasta (too lazy for quote tags) Al Gore made a movie of his slideshow 'An Inconvenient Truth' about global warming.

and at any rate, like most people who studied climate in college I learned that there is no doubt in the scientific community that global warming is occuring and that the changes we're seeing are NOT normal on a small or nearly-infinite scale. i don't see this as debatable, and it's the media's fault we think it is, as far as i'm concerned...
