I think we ALL know what you're going through, Donna. This is our 4th year of the back-and-forth-across-the-ocean relationship. We spent FOUR YEARS living for each time we were reunited, counting down the days until we were together. And then the second we were in each other's arms, we were faced with the countdown to the day we had to part again. It puts a black cloud over each visit.

This separation is the BIG ONE. We knew it would be this way, and tried to prepare ourselves for it, but it's worse than we imagined. While I sit here in relative comfort, my husband lives in substandard conditions, because there's no work, and no benefits available to help him. I earn a secretary's wage. So after I take care of my mortgage and bills, there's not much left. I worry every day about whether he's eating right, if he's warm, etc. He's a very resilient and optimistic man, which is why I fell in love with him. But I worry, ya know?

It may sound stupid, but maybe instead of thinking what you don't have, think about what you DO have. Although he's far away, you have a man who loves you - a man who waits for you. That's LOVE, Donna. Lesser men would walk away from this. But a man who will wade through this garbage is a keeper!

I'm an expert in surviving the separations. My methods may not work for you, but I'll suggest them just the same. Break the separation up by weeks. Start looking forward to an event at the end of THIS week, then the next. For me, I look forward to my paycheck every two weeks. Or I'll decide that in 3 weeks, I'm going to do something nice, maybe drive to see some beautiful place, or have a nice dinner out with my mother. Then, you're only looking forward THREE weeks instead of three MONTHS. When you look back, you'll see that 3 weeks have flown by.

I don't know about you, but it's actually easier for me if I don't chat with my husband every day. Chatting for hours on end really gets to me. It seems to make the longing worse, and time stands still.

I know I probably haven't helped much, but just know that we're all in this - we all know what you're going through. There are many, many pillowed soaked with VJ'er tears.

Hang in there. You'll soon be cooking in the Kentucky heat. LOL.

I can relate with this so well....I always try to think in terms of days/weeks and not months. However I dont know how you can handle not talking with your husband everyday? I think this is the only thing that keeps me going.....but then again everyone is different...

Its definitely something everybody copes in different ways. My wife and I use skype to go every night to talk - I can't really do without my nightly chat with the wife. It would drive me a bit batty. Thanks to her being a 3 hour flight (Toronto) or 5 (Buffalo) we are able to visit every month or two.

My heart goes out to those of you doing all this across the pond. Let is all have a smooth and RFE-less journey.

Anyone see this nugget of news?

http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/men...00045f3d6a1RCRD

"Redesigning USCIS.gov

"In the next 90 days, USCIS will launch a vastly improved Web site that will, for the first time ever, allow applicants to get updates on their status of their applications via e-mail and text message and online."

-President Obama, June 25th, 2009

On September 22nd a redesigned USCIS.gov web site will be launched to help customers navigate the immigration system and remain up-to-date regarding their case status.

In response to customer feedback, from March to June 2009, USCIS conducted focus group discussions, usability tests, and surveys regarding general functionality of the website with a broad cross-section of users. Participants ranged from national & local stakeholders to customers and visitors to USCIS.gov.

Based on the findings, a design has been approved and is currently in development. The improved design of USCIS.gov follows four core principles:

* A customer-centric home page that provides applicants with a “one-stop shop” of immigration services information.

* Simplified navigation and improved search capability.

* Enhanced customer service tools including expanded Case Status Online with both email and text functionality.

* Information that is written clearly and meets the needs of our customers.

USCIS wants to help prepare customers for the redesigned website, so we are providing a mock up of the new home page reflecting these core principles. Between now and September 22nd, USCIS will continue to provide updates on the progress we make toward this goal. Please check our web site for future progress updates and to get answers to your questions."

Well, I really can't afford this, but... I booked a flight today.

Food and heat are highly overrated.....

I may try to sell some furniture or pick up some extra part-time work to pay for it.

congrats, Julie! send me a postcard, hehehe. i am trying to figure a way to ask my boss to let me "borrow" against next year's pto so i can attend the husband's interview. this is the one mistake i am kicking myself for from the fiance interview. i didn't have any trips after we met for 3 months in 2007. i have made 2 trips since his last interview in november. so i am doing a lot of overtime to pay for my next trip.

Oh man... you must be working 'round the clock!

Does every embassy require you BOTH to attend the interview? My vacation time resets in January, so I'm hoping the interview may be scheduled after that.

Julie

i recently got approved to work 20 hours a week overtime. i work at home, so it makes it a lot easier :) it does seem like i am always in front of my work pc. so i keep my laptop sitting on the desk next to it, which is why you can almost always find me on vj.

no, the embassy does not require you to be at the interview. india is not an easy consulate. he did fine in the interview, but they asked for information that was next to impossible for us to get. when we couldn't produce it, they sent us back to USCIS for "review". well, they reviewed it, and decide to expire it (which is better than a denial :) )

our pto also starts over in january, so if his interview is next year, it would actually be perfect because i will have 32 hours carried over to the next year. but i am praying for him to be here for christmas :star:

Oh my goodness.... this is your second time around???

I'm also worried about not being able to provide what they need. My husband has that 28-yr old conviction. We requested more information from the courthouse, but the records can't be found. I'm really not sure what we can do to provide the information they'll undoubtedly require.

Just got back from a horrible big blood test this morning to find out my vaccine history. I hate blood tests!

My blood didn't pump too well.... And now I'm bruised!! Eeee!

I read your reply Julie, I don't mean to sound ungrateful, that is certainly not my personality. I, on the other hand to you, must have daily contact with my husband. I couldn't survive more than a day without it.

Neither could he.... Considering we have been doing it since the day we met online.

Thank god I'm from Australia and our embassy sounds good.... They were helpful when I initially emailed before all this process began asking dumb questions.

I feel for you K, dealing with a tough embassy!

yeah, this is the second time around with the same SO ;) although they are tough, it wasn't completely their fault. we were very naive and thought our attorney would know what he was doing. but that was for the fiance visa. we are now married. it is for this reason we sent in over 11 pounds of paperwork, and over 150 photos. we did not want to leave any stone unturned, and did not want them saying we did not have enough evidence. as the saying goes, if i knew then what i know now.
