So I received my Oath Ceremony letter today in the mail.

"You are hereby notified to appear for a Naturalization Oath Ceremony on: Saturday, July 4 2009"

Well whoopty-doo. Apparently the USCIS doesn't recognize the 4th (aka America's birthday) as a holiday where people may have plans.... like..... let's say.... go out of town? It's not really a big deal as I will just have them reschedule me but I'm anxious to get this over with. Like really, who schedules anything like this on the 4th?

Maybe I'm over-reacting......................

Maybe NOT!!!

Have a feeling it will be a few months before they re-schedule me. ARgghhhhh how annoying.

Some people take that as symbolic of taking Naturalization on American Independence Day of being an American naturalize, I can't speak for your personal opinion but I would be glad to take my oath on Independence day. You don't want it, give it to somebody that may have more values to them than you. I am pretty sure someone out there will take your day (seat) to take that oath!

Hi Everyone,

My vote (lol...cool, I can vote here on VJ even though I'm not a US Citizen yet, thanks for the election YuandDan):

"Awesome, A US Citizen born on the 4th of July!"

As for having an oath date on July 4th...Hey, what better date to have such? Seems more like an extra special day for such a ceremony, considering the historical meaning behind Independence Day (I'm sure those who are studying for US Citizenship and/or know about American History know what I mean about this). Heck, if you don't want that July 4th oath date...I'll be glad to take it for you! (and I'm sure many others would want that date too)

Sigh....I don't think that a July 4th oath will happen for me though, as I can't even apply for citizenship until the earliest of August in this year (and no, I'm not waiting until next year to apply). I will probably get my oath in the freezing-cold winter month of January, if all goes as expected according to current timelines. Oh well, I can't complain though, as having an oath, regardless of date, is better than having no date at all (though I admit, I'd rather just skip the public oath ceremony and have the certificate given at the interview or privately instead....wishful thinking...)

A weird co-incidence though, if a January oath were to happen for me...

I became a Canadian Citizen in January many years ago.....I become a US Citizen in January next year.....Oh what good ways to begin the new years!

On the other hand, this July I can expect my baby to be born...So at least I can say:

"Awesome, A (baby) US Citizen will be born in July!"....

Would I then like to wait till July 4,2010. No.

Would this make me any less patriotic. NO.

I'd be happy and honored too if I had the chance to take the oath on July 4th - I couldn't wish for a better day!! :star:

It just ain't possible in my case since I filed for citizenship just a few weeks ago. I guess I won't even make it 'til Labor Day (also a popular Oath Ceremony Date ...) ;)

If I were in the position that my Oath Ceremony collides with a vacation etc. I'd rather reschedule the vacation than the ceremony. It's too important!

I was kinda hoping for it, even though it would be out of town for us! But I think it would be perfect, maybe because I never take vacations anyhow, but i think it would be the perfect end to the journey! To take my oath on such a special day for americans by becoming an american too! However, my application is taking a little longer than some, but my interview is right after the 4th.... good enough for me!

I'd love to have it on a 4th of July too. I can't think of a better day to take my oath.

Another plus is I wouldn't have to take time off from work.

Yes, yes, yes and a 1000 times yes for a 4th of July ceremony! I love the festive atmosphere of this day and watching the fireworks after being sworn in sure sounds appealing to me!!

But again, I wouldn't ask or wait for it, it just sounds like a nice and meaningful combination ;)

They suppose that becoming an American Citizen is more important than taking a vacation =) And by the looks of the poll so do most people. Enjoy the day..... This is what you been waiting for all this time. Good Luck.
