I hae heard the expression "There is no such thing as a dumb question" many times in my life, but i can't help thinking that the two I have are kinda dumb. They are certainly things I should know by now, but I currently am having a bit of an anxiety crisis, and I am not sure of anything anymore.

Our case currently is pending at the California Service Center. Naturally, I obsessively check https://egov.uscis.gov/cris/jsps/login.jsp every day, but since the application package was received on May 13, 2009, nothing has happened. I looked at the normal processing times for an I-130 at this service center, and it appears that the normal time is in the 5-month range.

Okay, so I have 2 questions:

1. I haven't seen any "touches" on the case since it was received about 6 weeks ago. I notice that in the timelines posted by many others in these forums that some cases get touched early and often. Is this something for me to worry about? Am I even looking in the right place? (At this point it wouldn't surprise me at all to learn that we have had a half dozen touches, but I have been checking the wrong web site for updates...)

2. When I see a 5-month processing time for the California Service Center, that means 5 months until...what? Until we get an interview? Until the whole thing is finished? Or until they even look at it again?

Thanks for your time, and I appreciate any feedback.

1) Touches dont mean much, some get many touches thoughout processing, others dont get any couches at all.

2) 5 Months means that the oldest cases at the center are 5 months old. It means NOA2 approval can take up to 5 months after filing. It has nothing to do with when the consulate may interview you, the interview date is set by DOS or the consulate, NOT USCIS. There is still NVC and Consulate processing after NOA2 which is after USCIS finishes processing.

We've all been there and unfortunately, there is no way to speed up the process. Check the VJ time lines to see the approximate waits between the steps.

All I can say is buckle up for a time ride and you will get through it.

Good luck!
