heading down for a visit, you mean? she just needs to carry a lot of proof of ties to Canad awith her and she should be fine. but it is always a gamble.

so I hear. My relatives keep hearing all these horror stories about people being split up for four years just to get their green card, being banned from entering the US for life, etc......it's like they think I'm moving my family to Iraq or something......so irritating

just be really careful and make sure she does not lie AT ALL at POE. Bring in ALL evidence of ties to Canada. A lot of folks here in the Canada forum had come and gone with no problems. I can remember at least flames9 used to do that back in the day, no issues. but then again, it can always happen that the IO has not gotten laid in months and SHAZAM he won't let you in. meh.

I can't find any information about how to file a I-130 in Vancouver on their consulate website. Do I call or email them for an appointment?

Found the number now- not an easy website to navigate!

Hi Superspur and welcome,

You will find some information online here: http://vancouver.usconsulate.gov/content/t...cument=applying

Are both you and the U.S. citizen living in Canada?

Please tell her to pop in here, even if it's just to read this thread, or other posts in this forum to better acquaint herself with the process. Unfortunately, the only thing the media ever picks up are those cases (very few) whereby people have had some difficulties, and usually there are factors that aren't reported as well. You aren't in any kind of situation that's different than any of us here as well...and a lot of us have been through the process and that's why we're here to help you, as we were helped when we started out as well. As long as she never lies at the POE, and has documentation to show that she's coming back to Canada, she should have no issues.

Hi.

I have a question, which I hope someone can assist with. Firstly, do I apply for a normal visa interview on line to submit my I-130?

I am a foreigner living in Canada with my family (USC) for 10 months. I have been invited to study at a US University for end Sept11, and it is now May22nd. I would like to immigrate to the US using the I-130 but not sure on the timing. My classes in the US starts end September. The other alternative is to get a F-1 visa, as the school is sending me an I-20.

A follow up question: my of 9 years does not work, and she is USC who has been here in Canada with me. She is here in Canada, vancouver, without a working permit. She is here as an accompanying spouse, and I am here on a study permit.

Timing is key, and if I don't apply for the GC, then I would have to come back to Canada end of the year and then apply, which would be really inconvenient.

The other alternative is to apply for the F-1 and then in August/ September apply for the I-130, but then I am concerned about crossing the border, and the questioning of my intent with going to study in the US.

Thanks for any advice.
