I thought it was going to be his way of garnering votes come the next election - the appeal of 'mystery'. Instead it's yet another middle aged fart too stupid to face his responsibilities swanning around after his #######...typical!

He should have thought of that before.

Teenagers might need a new relationship before they break off an old one, older people need to take care of current business before embarking on new or they aren't going to learn anything. However, he's not alone :)

It does annoy me, this 'but I had to do it and now I feel bad' stuff. If you are unhappy, let those who care about you know. You owe them at least that much.

Good, then she 'did' know where he was, even if she didn't want to know really - so the mystery was a 'fake' :)

To be honest, I dislike this predilection for knowing every detail about someone's private life rather particularly politicians. How many CEO's do we not trust because they take a mistress, or have a homosexual lover?

he resigned as republican govs association chair or something...

In a stunning confession, South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford admitted Wednesday to being "unfaithful" to his wife during a press conference meant to account for his mysterious week-long absence.

"I've let down a lot of people. That's the bottom line," he said. "I've been unfaithful to my wife."

Sanford, who just returned from Argentina, said he developed a "relationship with what started out as a dear, dear friend from Argentina."

The governor "apologized" profusely to his family, his staff and the people of South Carolina.

The first-hand account was meant to settle mounting questions over the governor's whereabouts.

Confusion only intensified Wednesday morning after The State newspaper reported that Sanford had just returned from Argentina, even though his staff claimed the disappearing governor was hiking on the Appalachian Trail a few hours away from the state capital.

He's out. Pompous azz up there with the sad face trying to justify himself, invoking God, and promising to "get his heart right." And now we get Speed Racer André Bauer. I could hear him chomping at the bit already on NPR yesterday. Heaven help us.

ETA: Not sure if he's resigned as governor or as Governor's Association Chair yet -- staff was yelling that he had resigned as governor.
