I had a small and a XL timmies today in RI!! Off to saskatoon tomorrow, and I shall see my folks holding a XL triple cream awaiting my arrival, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

^ wow - that's insane. :o

Well I sure hope its nothing like that!

Houston has had tons of hurricanes over the years, but you know what? Tropical Storm Allison was far worse than any hurricane we experienced.

Yikes, I'd never read about that before.

Is it wrong that I'm excited for the hurricane coming this way? I think its just something different. Although my brother and sister in law are arriving on the 15th, so it better be gone by then and beaches looking pristine.

I love hurricanes. Just make sure your generator works well in advance. Trying to get a new one just before a hurricane shows up is a painful experience.

I belong to a really great weather service site that follows tropical developments. Here is today's forecast for the Hurricane Felicia:

Hurricane Felicia:

I usually don't cover Pacific hurricanes unless they pose a threat to the United States and Felicia may pose a threat to the Hawaiian Islands as a tropical depression or a tropical storm early next week.

Felicia is a 140 mph Category 4 hurricane this morning and it appears that the hurricane has leveled off in intensity. Felica is tracking west-northwest at a forward speed of about 10 to 11 mph this morning and a track to the west-northwest or even northwest is expected today through Friday. After Friday, a ridge of high pressure currently north of Hawaii is forecast to shift to the east and cause Felicia to turn back to the west this weekend. The track model guidance agree that Felicia may impact the big island of Hawaii by Monday as the storm will weaken by then and be embedded in the east to west trade wind flow.

Felicia is expected to remain a major Category 3 or 4 hurricane today and tonight. After tonight, Felicia will cross into an area with water temperatures less than 78 degrees Fahrenheit and also towards increasing westerly shear. So, Felicia is expected to weaken fairly rapidly this weekend and Felicia is expected to impact the Hawaiian Islands, especially the big island of Hawaii, as either a tropical depression or perhaps even a weak tropical storm on Monday. It is not out of the question that Felicia may completely dissipate by the time it reaches Hawaii due to the cool water temperatures and strong shear.

Felicia may bring heavy rain and strong winds to tropical storm force to the big island of Hawaii as early as late Sunday night and continue through Monday.

Have a nice tropical storm MrsCat! :hehe:

Well, we are home, finally - after 8 days travelling (around 2900 miles) across the United States and Canada (of course). I can now officially say that I have driven across Alberta, having never driven from the East before.

It was a looooong trip, around 7-8 hours a day driving, then we would just get something to eat, watch tv and go to bed early to get up early the next day.

Meowmix was a gem, hardly ever even complained, good kitty! I complained more than the cat

So now we are in a hotel in Calgary. As soon as we arrived we went straight to our new apartment, signed about 10 pages of agreements not to do stupid stuff like leave on holiday, turn the heat off and leave the patio door open? The apartment is ok - it will do for a few months while we settle in and then we will...move.

Then off to ABF, our truck has not arrived yet, hoping it will arrive tonight, it is in Montana - then Mike has to go to U.S. customs, clear it, fax the sheet to ABF and hopefully we can have it delivered tomorrow afternoon - they don't do deliveries on weekends. Have to go sit in the apartment for 4 hours tomorrow morning waiting for shaw cable to hook up phone, internet and tv.

Oh and since there are many many miles of travelling with nothing much to do except think, I want to share what I decided while travelling back to Calgary.

I am never driving to Florida again.

I'm glad you are safely home. That is a lot of driving and I hear you about 'driving to Florida'! Good luck in getting settled in and started on your 'new' life back home.
