No reason why your husband can't go to the wedding himself is there? I'd opt out of the wedding and go to the concert. Who gives a ff what his mother thinks. ( I can't believe I said ff!!!!!!) I've never "sworn" on a board before!:lol:

Basically he feels we should be there together and it's like he's saying: If I have to suffer so do you.

But I like weddings and I never suffer at them like they do. I would have gone and had a grand old time but this came up. His mother would just be dissapointed.. But who cares! My mom is even willing to come to this show with me because it's so close.

Oh my mom loves nine inch nails who are playing the second night so we'd have fun!

GO! It sounds like you'll never be able to please his mother anyway, no matter what you do

Good morning all!

So, I don't expect anyone to understand this situation I am in, it's quite silly and shouldn't be a "situation" at all...BUT I follow a particular band around.

No I am not a 'groupie' and I can't explain why I do what I do... but when I got into them they had already broken up and I have always been extremely passionate about them. I am even a mod on their official board, I collect their music, I have rare items other fans would pay me big bucks for.

I consider myself to be their biggest fan. That being said... they are playing at a festival literally down the road from my mom's house in August. I was going to leave on Monday August 31st, but was thinking I could leave on Friday and make it up for this festival.

BUT MY HUSBAND STANDS IN MY WAY!

We have a wedding that weekend... his family. He said that we HAVE to go. I don't see why, I am not particularly close to this family and whenever we do attend weddings with them no one talks to us and I don't think they'd notice if I am not there. He says my values are skewed... you see in MY family, we don't always go to eachothers weddings, we wear our comfy clothes to eachothers funerals... thats how we roll.

But I understand, I live with my husband now, I have attended a few weddings, I dress up and do what his family does. I have mildly conformed. :P

BUT this band means the world to me. More than one of his cousin's weddings.

I mean if it were my BIL getting married, I'd understand. But he doesn't even like this cousin and him and his mom always bash them.. I just don't get it.

Ahh I am torn! TORN I SAY!

By the way the band is the Pixies... and only a few people would comprehend the absolute love I have for them. :P

I have only seen them 8 times and I need to make it to the double digits in order to die a happy woman and I am afraid that Kim Deal and Frank Black will fight again and it will all go to hell like it did in the early 90s!

And yes they're going to tour after this festival, yes I could just wait for that... but I can't and don't you dare try to talk sense into me! :P

It's an unhealthy obsession. He knew about it when he married me. :P

I seriously hate you right now :P Well, more like jealous. One of the most memorable concerts of my youth was seeing The Pixies play with Bad Religion and The Melvins. I've only managed to see them once, but have seen Frank Black's group perform 3 other times. I'd say go for it. As long as your husband can just remain silent about it and then at the last second say that you had some sort of family emergency, there should be no family drama on his end. But just remember, he gets a free "Get Out Of ____________" card.

It really is okay now.

I figure its a release on both of our parts.

I have some issues with her, I am sure she has some with me... the good thing is we don't have to be married to eachother. I don't hate the woman, I just don't understand her. I am sure the feeling is mutual.

I have just never been in a family where you don't say what you need to say and where no one communicates. Its a learning experience. I am always trying to find the sunny side of the road...

I'm lucky that my parents were really into music. So much so that they took me to see Lynnard Skynnard and The Who when I was still in diapers

I still laugh at the thought of going to see Rage Against The Machine at their 2nd ever gig at a club in Hollywood...... with my mom.

See my mom was sorta the same way. She plays the drums, so she was always really into music too. Took me to see Pink Floyd, took me to see the dead a few times. She took me to a lot of shows. She was soo dissapointed when I went through my NKOTB phase, she thought she raised a better daughter.
