Hi all! Driving back home now, what crappy weather we've had. I can't even help with the driving because I broke my finger. We're just outside of binghampton now and it's starting to clear a bit.

*yawn*

Well, back home from Seattle after dropping my wife off for her early morning flight. It only took me two hours to get back home from Sea-Tac, which is pretty incredible. And I wasn't speeding (much) either!

We had a great time together, and it was actually pretty good at the airport this morning -- no tears etc. this time. More excitement that this MAY be the last trip before I'm actually moving there! If I don't get an interview scheduled in the next couple of weeks, I may fly down at the end of this month, but one of my wife's New Year's Resolutions is to not get on a plane this year. She HATES traveling!

So you can expect a lot of posts from me as I get caught up on the last week or so of happenings on VJ. :P

I feel bad for my friend's boyfriend.

He crossed the border yesterday to Buffalo. His flight got delayed and it made him miss his connection in Chicago so now he has to wait 10 hours for his next flight.

Crazy airport delays.

Yikes! Something similar happened to my husband once when he was visiting me. He got stuck in Detroit for 9 hours!

I think we may have found an apartment. Its a little more expensive than we were hoping, but I think its worth it.

Hi Everyone,

Where I am in rural New York State, USA (near Buffalo, NY, by the way.)...It is currently...

18 degrees F...(way below freezing)...And with snow, snow, and more snow to come!! We'll be burried alive!

Brrr......

Typical January winter weather though....So it's not too unusual to expect such around here....

Though I have to wonder: How do they stand outdoor football in weather like this? Freezing fans and players!

We get the cold air and lake effect snow from nearby Canada....So yeah, it's all the same....North of the border, south of the border...

I don't mind the cold (it must be a Canadian thing)....

But I hate the high heating bills, despite keeping the heater at only 60 degrees F...

On the bright side: It is very beautiful to see the snow-capped mountains out my window, and thank goodness I have nice and helpful neighbours willing to help shovel our 50ft driveway for free..:)

Hope its not too cold and snowy where you are...

Sending some hot choco and warm thoughts to all!

Yeah, that Lake Effect is pretty crazy! When I was there for Easter last year I really noticed it. The temperature was only around the freezing level, but felt a LOT colder.

Hi Everyone,

More replies....

Flames9_RN-Lol..It was every 1-2 hours for me for about 3 days...lol...Yeah, it got kind of annoying for my husband, but I didn't mind (and needed more meds anyways)...Personally, I think they just wanted to be in there to see the baby (the baby was rooming-in with us, as I was nursing then), and "co-incidently" decided to check up on me at the same time...lol....

But yeah, it was nice to see that they had such nice and friendly service there..(lol..even though they probably wanted me out anyways..)

waking people up,lol! I work on a cardiac floor and every 4 hrs the techs wake up the pts to take thier vitals. Then of course I'm in their assessing them, passing out meds, them going down for procedures etc etc! On rarely gets much sleep in a hospital. Of course it depend son what type of floor on! Now a days, we truly try to get people out of the hospital as fast as we can

Marilyn-I agree, meds are the way to go.. .

Sorry about the loss of your babies though... :crying: ....May they always be in your thoughts and be watching over you from heaven above.. :innocent::innocent:

I went through childbirth twice, once without meds and once with meds..

I prefer the meds...

Kathryn-Oh lucky you! So much mail in one day! Wow!....:) Lol...At this rate, you'll probably need another mailbox (or heck, even a post office of your own for that much mail)! And yeah, I agree, I'm not too keen about the US healthcare system either. By the way, did you ever get that bill sorted out yet? Good luck with getting that figured out soon.

I LOVE Saturday mail service and really hope that they keep it.

Let's see, what did we get in the mail yesterday? A store catalogue, Joe's paycheque statement; acknowledgment of a stop payment from the bank (someone lost the cheque we gave them), a statement about a health care claim still waiting for information requested from my doctor (grr - an ongoing stalemate - I hate the US health insurance system!); a letter from my Dad (he regularly sends me an envelope stuffed with interesting newspaper clippings, photographs or other paraphernalia from back home), and two late Christmas cards.

Krikit-Get well soon! In the meantime, hope you enjoy and like those chocolate popsicles..yum....:)

I'm still sick, though. :(

On a happy note..... the new Publix has started stocking banana popsicles!!!!!!! My husband is going to check and see if they have chocolate ones now too. Oh, please please please please let them have chocolate popsicles. pray.gif

Sprailenes-Hope you have a safe trip home in this snowy weather! Glad you made it up there and are on your way back through the USA. How was your stay in Canada? And by the way, what did happen to your finger?

Hi all! Driving back home now, what crappy weather we've had. I can't even help with the driving because I broke my finger. We're just outside of binghampton now and it's starting to clear a bit.

Rhiann-Yeah...Buffalo is snowed out here!...Perhaps they can drive the rest of the way instead (lol..though that might not be much better..but it might be cheaper and faster than waiting for another plane).Hope your friend gets the next destination soon...

Wyatt-Oh yeah, Lake Effect is brutal! In fact, I get more snow here now near Buffalo, NY than in Toronto, Canada where I was before...

Both sides of the Lake...but more snow on the south...funny....

And yes, it is freezing cold here...Brr...

Lol..The "great white south" is definitely worse than "the great white north" now!

Thank goodness us Canadians are more than prepared for this type of American weather!

Hi Everyone,

Ok...One more post before I log off for the day....

(I don't know where to post this, so I'll post this in the off-topic Canada forum here...)

I had a strange dream last night....

I was crossing the border back to Canada, by car, and when I handed the border guard our identification.

The border guard looks at the identification, gives it back to us, and gives me a "Welcome to Canada colouring book" and a "moose card"....

"Umm...Thanks", I reply. "I thought they don't give these out at the border? What are they?"

To which the border guard says.."We give them to kids now...To welcome children into the country...."

And I ask.."So what's the Moose Card for?" (looks at the card, which has some sort of moose-like cartoon character on it, and blank spaces underneath)

The border guard replies.."It's kind of like a passport for children coming to Canada...Each time they visit, they get a stamp. And if they have enough stamps, they can trade it in for a real moose!"

I laugh...and give the book and card to my son in the backseat...

I then WAKE UP! to the sound of my son crying....

I swear, I've been hainging around "VJ Canada" too long...lol....

Weird dream, indeed!.....

Ha! You TOTALLY had me going with that, too. I was thinking, "Aww, how sweet of the border guards to give coloring books to kids!" I wised up at the "free moose" part though. Everybody knows that you only get free baby seals upon entry.
