oh man... those threads on that Phils forum are so freaking embarrassing. Oh my god. They belittle all women. Wives, mothers, daughters and friends and so on. They're just gross. I puke every time I go in there. Its the women needing to be ego stroked, "tell me how pretty I am, I am the most beautiful of all women!" and the men, who've most likely been burned or didn't know how to deal with a strong woman, lauding the virtues of the 'meek, little Phils girl"

all tongue in cheek, friends. But god. it's laughable and sad.

There is one poster there, makes me puke on my own lap.

;)

Sometimes, the topics in the PI part of the forums kind of amuse me.

Especially the whole "american women are blah blah blah etc".

I'm sorry, I've met a lot of American women who arent selfish, materialistic w**res. :)

Me too.

Like my wife. :)

I just peeked into that thread (because I saw a Canadian forum name had posted in it and it piqued my curiosity...) and was a little surprised at the stereotypes as well! Sure, there are surely SOME situations where the marriage is more of a symbiotic relationship than anything (USC gets quiet, polite, demure wife / Filipina gets green card, "better life" for family, potentially more freedoms etc.), but I'm sure that most cases are indeed based on love. That's why there are so many regional forums... Love can come from anywhere. It wouldn't surprise me if an Australian married a Siberian at some point.

Good morning everyone! Well, on Friday I went to a fund raiser luncheon sponsored by the place I volunteer through. I bought "bucket" raffle tickets. The kind that you buy, then put in various buckets to win that prize. Well, I put them all in one bucket, and I won! So, for $5.00 in tickets, I won 2 seats front centre, in a "box" to the Calgary Flames vs St. Louis Blues hockey game next Tuesday! I'm so excited! They are valued at $356.00!!!!

Enjoy your day!

Wow Carla! Congratulations! That's a great prize :) I hope you enjoy the game. It will be on TV here, if they are showing it, so will be looking for you and Gene, be sure to wave

Is that $356 each? That's about what they run here!

Unfortunately, this isnt the case for this American/Canadian-Filipino duo. Poor honeybear... I'm not really polite, demure and definitely not quiet :P Ohhh not quiet at all. He really got unlucky, eh?

I havent followed the PI thread for a long time as when I do, I just get unbelievably annoyed AND insulted. Ive never really received any horrible reaction from other people since living in the US and my husband's family sees me as one of them.

The WIL, however, sneered at me when I told her that I was born and pretty much raised in the Philippines before moving to the US to pursue my bachelor's degree. I will actually see her and her family this weekend, and will probably be subjected to a list of racially discriminating questions.

Of course, I will be prepared this time, unlike the first time I met her demonic parents. The first time I met what the witch calls her mother, the witch introduced me as, "such and such, and she's here to get her green card." #######.

This time, I will be ready and have my story of how "the American honey rescued me from the horrible life Ive had in the outskirts of the Philippines, married me because of universal goodwill, and taught me English through the Rosetta stone CDs".

I am so excited and will keep you guys informed :P

Haha. That's hilarious...especially the Rosetta Stone comment I snipped from this quote, for some reason...

But I think that's exactly why a number of people are surprised and offended by that thread -- it is SO stereotypical! I'm honestly a proponent of "to each their own", but I can't help but shake my head in awe at some of the backwards mindsets that still exist. That's why I tend to stick to the Canada forum. It's warm, cozy and we have Timbits.

Well the witch was surprised I can speak English. Seriously. And because I am a nice human being, I wouldnt DREAM of destroying her racial nonsense mindset by telling her I went to private school and learned English... imagine the horror she will feel. So I will tell her that I learned because my American husband patiently taught me my ABC's... ;)

Unfortunately, these stereotypes are the ones that are remembered the most :( Even among Filipinos! When my husband and I went to Manila for the summer holidays a year ago, my countrymen stared at us like "somethin' was going on..." and said inappropriate things that I refused to tell the hunny or else we would be in a lot fights... Meh LOL!

I must say Wyatt, I agree with you about the Canadian forum!!! I kind of have to post on the AOS forum now (or at least read AOS threads) and its not the same as the Canadian forum! I dont ever want to leave!

Finally married... and still married... ;)

Wow. That is awesome, Carla! Congratulations!

I am just waiting for my call from the Princess Margaret Foundation to tell me all about the lovely new house I've just won.

Oh there is this cool show coming on here, basically it's Gordon Ramsay and it's a 1 hour show - called cook along live

So the show is an hour and you get the shopping list for ingredients beforehand, then on the night you cook along with him, a three course meal. It starts on December 15th and this is the menu for that night:

Appetiser:

Angel Hair Pasta with Shrimp, Chili Peppers and Tomatoes

Main:

Steak Diane with Sauteed Potatoes and Peas

Dessert:

Quick Tiramisu

Anyway, I might try it for fun (even though I don't like shrimp, peas or tiramisu lol - i'll just leave the shrimp out)!

Oh cool! That DOES sound like fun! I guess you'd need a television in your kitchen, though. lol

Or live in a really small apartment

Speaking of which....someone new moved in, they have an SUV, they park beside us. They have decided their vehicle access is very important, therefore they part right at the side of the parking space so they can get their door open.

That's fine except.....now we can't access our driver's side door - so last night when my Husband went out he had to climb over from the passenger side to get in.

I emailed the manager - they are moving the guy to another parking space.

so the little boy I babysit had his eye specialist appointment on Friday.. the mom told me that the doctor's said he probably has an eye condition that will require glasses and that the eye drops and sinus infection are just coincidental... how could someone just suddenly get an eye condition?? They have a follow-up with the pediatrician today...
