I came...I saw...I signed up lol.

I might even recommend it to some of the people here on base that are on "weight probation." Very neat website indeed

Awesome Misty! :) We'll have to egg each other on.

Yeah, I've kind of battled my weight over the years too. I've been able to lose it all and keep it off for awhile, but as soon as things start to change in my life that knock me out of my routine for more than a week and a half or so, I completely fall off it. I lost 70 pounds a few years ago but have gained much of that back since last October.

Once I'm down in D.C. and have some stability in my life again, I'll start anew and hope I can sustain it for longer with nothing to knock me off my routine again. Sigh.

When I do, I'll definitely look into sites such as those.

I think it's still a good idea to start it even if you aren't dieting/exercising. Just seeing where all your calories go is good to know.

Unfortunately I get into this "ignorance is bliss" phase where I tell myself I don't care...and in a way, I don't. I don't feel guilty when I eat bad stuff when I'm in that mindspace, which is probably why I gain weight back. It's almost like my body WANTS to be a certain weight. It's strange though...when I'm a bit heavier, I don't get sick very often and generally feel better. Go figure. I know that's still no excuse to not watch the cals, exercise etc.

Our bodies have a mechanism to control our appetite and weight. Once you've found a "comfortable" weight (which can change, but it involves a full lifestyle change), your body will react differently. If you begin to lose weight, your body will increase your appetite so you don't. The same goes for if you begin to gain - your body will lower your appetite.

It's annoying, but it is beatable. But I know what you mean. I really don't have any incentive to do anything about exercise until I move to Florida, but I have a beach wedding to attend in the Spring now.

so my boss has ordered another 4 Christmas cookie tins, which makes a total of 12... :)

she also said I could plan a day to bake the cookies and she would come home early to help... I had asked her earlier if I could use her kitchen to bake the cookies.. she has more counter space...

We're going to my SIL's for Thanksgiving and there will be a house full. Being how no one there was able to try the Nanaimo Bars I made, I'm going to bring some, and I found some Birds Custard in one of the local stores here!!! ( Where was it before??) There was a small international spot and there it was. They also had Areo bars...for $1.57!! Plus HP sauce.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

I had those for the first time recently. YUUUUMMMMM!!!!!

I asked Peachey to make me more!

 I had several people say to me... "Oh you're such a good cook, no wonder Tim married you!" I thought..."um...they're only Nanaimo Bars..." They were a big hit. Tim loves them too.

If I had the time I would make butter tarts. Hopefully I can do that for Christmas. I can't wait. It's the first time Tim and I will be together for it!! :)

As you may have read, our boat was on its way to being delivered on Sunday. The last contact we had with our boat was on Sunday evening at 10pm. We got a dropped cell phone call at 8am the next morning and since that time we had been unable to reach them.

One of the crew member's mother and fiance emailed me at midnight on Monday, saying that they were worried. We called the Coast Guard immediately after speaking with the mother and fiancee.

Its been a horrible day. Chris finally convinced the Coasties to send out a search and rescue plane at 10:30am, well beyond 24 hours of last point of contact. From 1am to 10pm there had been no reports of our boat on the seas or distress calls. Chris basically told them that he works for the NWS and a huge storm swell is on its way by midnight and if they were rudderless or without a mast they would never be seen again.

On the C130s last pass tonight before heading home they found our crew. The boat was disabled somehow (we're not sure how) and they drifted off course by about 100 miles. They were lucky to be found. They're on their way in a rescue boat as we speak. Apparently they are safe and uninjured. They're obviously strong and resilient young men.

I cannot wait to hear from them and hear their voices. I'd be selfish to want the first call to be to us rather than their families.

I have cried to the point of dehydration today.

I'm really curious to know if any of you Canadian ladies notice a greater level of misogyny in the US compared to Canada? Do women politicians or women high up in private industry in Canada have an easier time being taken seriously? Perhaps the northern US isn't so different from Canada but attitudes in the southern US seem radically so. I'm originally from the south and always found the condescending attitudes towards women irritating but took it for granted that things might be different elsewhere. Then I moved to northern Europe where it is more feminist and progressive (especially in Norway) and now looking back at the US, the attitudes in the southern US in particular seem decades behind the times and all the more unbearable. I'm getting kind of depressed about having to stay with my family in the south for a while until we can find work elsewhere further north. So I was just wondering if Canadians feel Americans are more sexist and how you deal with it...

My MIL was a politician in Canada and there are major issues with chauvinism and ignorance towards women here in BC. There are very few female politicians, too.

Thanks for the reply. I thought Canada might be more progressive. I'm happy to at least be married to a man that is very liberal, progressive and sympathetic towards feminists since it always angered him to see how his mother, sister and female friends were treated in Iran. Being with my husband will make it easier but I just don't know how I'm going to cope with the south at this point in my life after having lived in Germany and Norway.

That question is virtually impossible to answer. No one can say "America is this" or "Canada is that" as a definitive statement. How others are treated boils down to the individual and who you associate yourself with.

Based upon your experiences, you might have found more sexist people in one city or state or country. Does that mean the country -- as a whole -- is more sexist than another one? Of course not. Just as you've experienced more sexist attitudes in one area, so have people experienced less sexist ones in that area as well.
